  1. just 3 from last night, forgot my proper camera but it was lashing down anyway got on my train at chester after it had run round over to frodsham Jn to await the possession to be granted then on to halton curve to drop rail before heading back out at the runcorn end at halton jn and over to ditton to run round, poor pic as the sun had only just come up!! then away from there to bescot to dispose of the train and home
  2. excuse my french but "oh you f******g beauty" to add to the list ive worked them with DRS 20/37 combo in the past and just recently had a jolly out with a class 70 with the north wales rake
  3. dammit, i got a taxi home from bescot earlier, did think about getting a train back via new st and having a look in ian Allan but was tired
  4. Mines been dispatched according to an email from Aldi, coming via Hermes I’ve downloaded Cura to the computer and have had a look at it with a 3D scan I made using reconstructme and an Xbox Kinect Will see what happens when it arrives
  5. I use this... SHL BRAND ISOPROPANOL IPA Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9% Pure (1 Litre) 1000 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003D8QFR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_nhAfAb5ZNPNVY
  6. The funny thing is the train was the inward working of the same one that delayed me at hawarden bridge the night before on the 73s and it was the same driver too
  7. You should do a cover disc in ‘Real 3D’ for those with a 3D tv
  8. Some from last night, boring log job so didn’t bother with the proper camera Set off from Warrington in good time, put me in front of a late running Holyhead service so I got tonchester early and had to wait for 15 mins Voyager heading to Bangor And away to chirk on time, which is where it got fun, got asked to assist a failed train that was stood between shrewsbury and Gobowen, had slipped to a stop on the bank coming out of the town, so after positioning the wagons to be offloaded I changed headcodes and went into thunderbird mode And away to shrewsbury light engine Then after receiving info from the signaller about the location, signal to pass at danger etc I headed off to the rear of the failed train to meet the driver (I’d already stopped and spoke to him on the way up anyway), picked up the driver at the detonator protection (and ran the dets over!) coupled up, brake test and ran ‘bang road’ back to shrewsbury, to futher complicate matters there is an AHB crossing that I had to pass under local control with a hand signaller giving me authority to cross, dropped back into shrewsbury and through the platform so the rear loco was clear of the north end signal to go and dump the train in coton hill yard Isolated and ready to be dragged back And away to the yard All in and ready to head back to the station Bit of a blurry quick pic but I mentioned this in another thread, a semaphore subsidiary ‘warning’ indication, quite a rare thing now! Back into the platform to wait for that 158 to head north then I followed it to Wrexham Where I changed ends again and went back to chirk for my train which still needed to be fuelled and due to the yard set up had to depart with 6 wagons still loaded as normally it would be shunted into position but obviously I wasn’t there! Eventually left 2 1/2 hours late and didn’t gain any time at all on the way back as I got stuck behind a coal train from cosford to crewe! A long but interesting night though
  9. the 80s called they want their idea back
  10. I’m actually quite excited about getting mine, I have a few ideas I want to attempt and I know it’s going to be a steep learning curve but I have my teenage son to help me with it, he is already pretty good with sketchup and is very computer savvy I must admit I did think It a strange thing for Aldi to be selling when I first heard about it, it’s a very niche item but then again they do sell things like inflatable kayaks, riding gear and ski wear etc, stuff that seems odd to most but always seems to sell, there is very rarely an orange stickered inflatable hot tub sat festering in the isle of wonder months after they were announced I am thinking that In about 6 months time there will be a glut of ‘unopened’, ‘only opened to inspect’ or ‘used once’ Aldi printers on eBay when people have got bored or frustrated with them, when you collect you will no doubt find lots of 3D printer busts of the family littering the house, hopefully I won’t be one of them! TBH my lad has already said that if I can’t work it he will have it in his bedroom!
  11. I’ll download it and let you know, (that’s if the printer hasn’t been wrapped round my head by my wife when she finds out I’ve bought one)
  12. And from tonight, 73s to bidston Got on at altrincham then followed the stopper to Mobberley where I got a pic Over to wrexham and down to bidston Had to wait at hawarden bridge for the steel train in front to reach wrexham before we could set off, annoyingly that left 45 early and we were 30 late so we got to dee Marsh just as he pulled out of the yard so we sat here for 30 mins! We then did wrexham central and back to Chester, I was having a minor paddy at wrexham so never took any pics of the train in central station! And back to Chester That’s that, logs tomorrow!
  13. Just a few from last night, Prestatyn to Basford hall with the return working from Saturday 56302 passing through the station Then 56096 The abomination that’s is the footbridge at Prestatyn And into Basford hall with my train, 60002 and 60085 on it 56302 again And a vid of the 56s padd isn’t through Prestatyn after exiting the possession https://youtu.be/HEcqUOVyFQ8
  14. yeah, got to learn to do some 3D designs too! be interesting to see if my plan for the xbox kinect scanner works too, already have a list of modelling bits i want to scan and try and print off otherwise its try and design them
  15. Personally I think it’s a ruse, make it look like demand has shut down our site so people will go into store to buy their ‘Kevin the carrot’ toys (as that’s the rumour going round as to why the site has crashed)
  16. I did read somewhere it has a usb connection, I think some of the problem is they have used a generic ‘printer template’ for their listing as it includes things like paper capacity and pages per minute etc Noticed the Aldi site has gone down at the mo
  17. In for a penny as it were, delivery after Thursday next week discovered earlier in the week that an Xbox Kinect camera can be used as a 3d scanner, managed to get one from cash generator yesterday for £6, just waiting on a power supply from amazon to arrive to give it a go, I bought a 2nd hand gaming computer a couple of years back (I’m not a gamer though!) and apparently the high spec graphics card I have in it will run the Kinect as a scanner without issue (some slower cards will not run t as it freezes or goes blocky) I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do with it and the printer together, I’ve downloaded the free ‘reconstructme’ software to the computer which has options for the Kinect in the ‘available scanners’ section, just need to download the drivers for it My 13rd old can give me a crash course in 3D CAD modelling/ design as he does that in school in technology lessons
  18. Just 2 from this morning, 60002 in Rhyl Back there this evening to pick it back up
  19. It’s an LED type now (bulb fitted to a ‘normal’ signal) not a flat panel type signal
  20. A prime example of that, and I have highlighted it to authorities, is Trent jn, around 2015 they built some houses on the sharp curve coming from long Eaton to Trent which now impinge in the sighting of the signal protecting the Jn, you now don’t get a view of said signal until practically on the magnet, all it needs is a banner repeater adding and the problem would be solved, beforehand you got a pretty good view of the signal when you looked left out of the side window of the loco
  21. Signal sighting nowadays seems to comprise of someone who doesn’t know what a train looks like sat in front of a computer looking at the ‘computer model’ of how far apart the signals should be then simply adding the data to a straight line map without knowledge or understanding of things like gradients, curves, structures etc I know that opinion ‘upsets’ some on here but honestly I see new signals going up and wonder did Stevie wonder get the job designing them! The new (as yet to be commissioned) signals between soho and perry Barr are a recipie for disaster for either sliding past them or not getting away from them in low adheadion conditions Regards the original post, dropping into Salop from Gobowen up until very recently had a similar thing where the signal ‘disappeared’ into the lighting located behind, you would see the distant and it wasn’t until you were say 1/4 mike from the stop semaphore you would see the aspect (oil lit lamp), annoyingly the lighting that interferes with it was the canopy lights on platform 3 in shrewsbury station, as I say it’s been changed now, must have swapped the lights as well as fitting LED lamps to the signal and you see the stop signal a good 2 miles back now!
  22. not really looked but the train im on is going in empty and coming out with used track panels, there is also a 6X28 going in which is the point delivery wagons, my train is showing as crossing over to the up using the new points once work is complete tomorrow eve so i would hazard a guess its to do with the new crossing
