  1. some from me yesterday, also im my work thread cheadle heath station area the waterworks on the remaining curve between cheadle heath and northenden looking back towards the tiviot dale line from northenden direction, compare this to the picture of the box on the previous page nice milepost still in situ
  2. this box i presume http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/56808-the-clc-through-stockport/?p=2842067
  3. hmm, just happened to me too, anyone else just seeing links? (im on ipad/iphone) chrome on pc is fine though
  4. Some from yesterday, was booked to join the train at chinley to conduct it from northern den jn but decided to get on at derby and have a ride in the train to Peak forest and Buxton as I’ve never done that line or the one from chinley to northenden Top and tail 73s with a plp, trc and unusually 2 genny vans (one acting as brake force coach) Chinley, having come off the mainline towards chapel en le frith low level We then passed through peak a forest and guess what it was raining! The driver picked up the token for between great rocks and Buxton and we continued on the way, at great rocks you swing to the right almost back on yourself to head to Buxton while the old line to Matlock diverges to the left It then also joins the existing line coming in from a slightly lower level, this is looking back towards Matlock And into Buxton sidings, past the box And back out again The viaduct taking the line to hindlow A few tunnels and lots of bridges taking the line up and over the A6 Great rocks Great rocks jn tunnel Private shunt locos Great rocks box Approaching peak forest I then went and had a bit of a kip in the train before we headed off onto the old line between hazel grove and northenden, again another line I’ve never done, not much to see other than the remains of cheadle Heath station area, Heaton Mersey Station bridge I think this is where Heaton Mersey shed was We then diverged off what was the old line to Manchester central and curved round past the water works onto the Cheshire lines towards northenden jn Looking back toward the old line to tiviot dale I then went up front, passed this nice milepost while walking up to the loco I was supposed to get off at wrexham but the relief driver never came in so I had to stay on late and do wrexham bidston and back to Chester Bidston Wrexham Central Chester A slightly lost luggage trolley!
  5. I was having a think about how to do my charter rake which are hachette MK1d with Hornby wheels, the wheels are insulated both sides I’m going to see if this works, pull one of the wheels from the axle and put a piece of sticky brass strip (the type you can use as DCC bus bar, slug repellant tape stuff) on the inner face of one of the removed wheel then reassemble the wheelset with a spring in place pushing the axle through the brass strip, hopefully there will be enough contact between the axle and strip to make the axle electrically live, if not a blob of solder may do the trick Watch this space, well watch my workbench to see if it works, will try and do it later today or certainly this week anyway
  6. i too was inspired by phils workbench to get some of the stay alives and they are indeed fantastic, ive used the dcc concepts wheel back wiper pickups on my NMT which work fine but with some friction, i have however got a set of the sprung wipers for 'mentor' which is running a decoder and with 4 fitted they are faultless im going to illuminate my mk1 charter rake with the larger 14mm wheels like you have done but just replacing 2 wheels/axles per coach on the grounds of cost, interesting to see your experience with it regards tinting the led's if you have any try sticking some tamia low tack masking tape (or similar) over the led strip, i did it in one of my coaches where the light didnt match the rest (must have been brilliant white leds) and it toned it down beautifully to match the others
  7. Just one from tonight, a quick blast from Basford hall to rockliiffe hall with a top and tail 56 with track panels
  8. Don’t know if you’ve seen my workbench thread but I’ve given the layouts4U anti flickers a go and they are very good, you may find that you don’t need to cross wire the coaches as I’ve managed to do away with mine since adding the units Thanks for the heads up on them
  9. Finally got in the shed for a few hours tonight Inspired by philMCs workbench I decided to give Layouts 4U anti flicker lighting units a go, fitted the first one to one of the coaches that Just had the lights wired to the pick ups (cross wired between coaches) and it worked beautifully so I went on and tree them to the rest of the coaches, I even removed the decoders for 2 of them and replaced them with the units, it’s also eliminated the need to cross wire the coaches All completed And a quick video https://youtu.be/zCC9NyMLGi0 I then went onto mentor, I’d already wired this up internally, just needed to add pickups to it, I got some DCC concepts sprung pickups on 10mm wheels, I didn’t realise that the wheels on it were actually 14mm Which are far too big So switching to the 10mm wheels makes the buffers line up nicely To fit the wheels I had to drill a hole in the bogie Wheel with spring pickup, you can see one side is insulated Both wheels fitted, opposite sides insulated on each axle Bit hard to see but the wire then poked through the holes And wired up Same the other end and wired up to the circuit board in the coach And powered up And as I’ve used a decoder I can control the lights Just roof lights Just internal lights Still more to do, tidy up the internal wiring, add tinted glazing and general bits of small detail such as the grille over the roof windows and decals Ran it round the layout and I must say the spring pick ups are also brilliant, very little friction compared to the DCC concepts wiper pick ups, I’ve got 8 left so am going to add them to a few other items of IM stock that I’m planning on adding decoders to, May well also added a set of larger wheels to add pick ups and lighting to my mark 1 charter rake
  10. I’ve not heard anything about that one but it sure does look nice! Some from tonight, same train again, this time crewe to derby via Stockport, hope valley and the Erewash Crewe Stockport And shut down in derby And that’s that edit: how strange do the last 2 pictures look, could almost be the same location!!
  11. Dunno if this is something f any interest to anyone, london transport museum shop has the special edition BP for £479 https://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/models/trams-trains/midland-pullman-6-car-special-collectors-edition

  13. Yep got those thanks, looks like I may be having a refresh of new st on Sunday as my Cambrian learning has gone up the wall
  14. But of a taster for later when I upload the proper camera pics, had 37025 to Manchester Piccadilly, they even put some BR blue barriers out for me!
  15. I’m pretty sure ive go them as physical copies that we got sent when the scheme was finalised but electronic would be useful TBH I need to get a refresh day to new st asap with the new signalling from Tipton and round soho etc now in commission
  16. I just haven’t had the chance to do it, I could really do with getting it sorted as I can then work the logs but also I sometimes get the NMT along there and have to be conducted, I don’t fancy doing hellifield to Leeds though, not too bad a route but Leeds itself terrifies me!! My next bit of road learning is the Cambrian beyond Machynlleth and then I want to get little bits of missing ‘corners’ in such as kidsgrove to cheadle hulme (which I’m in tonight so need conducting) and edge hill to Lime st, maybe New st to reddich too to ‘complete’ birmingham
  17. Been on the logs for a couple of days so haven’t bothered with pics other than these 2 from Tuesday Ran late that night so had to go via Wolverhampton and Cannock to get back north Back to IM tonight, another trip to Manchester Piccadilly via stoke and Macclesfield this time

  20. i was in RMT as a guard and am now in aslef, as E3109 says they are both pretty good as what they do for the various grades ive no interest in the day to day running of the union from head office down to branch level, never been to any branch meetings, dont think ive ever voted in any elections even half heartedly flick through the journal, mainly to see whos retired or died, but i wouldnt want to be without someone on my side should things go wrong, which is what i pay for the privelage for, i have thought about a switch back to RMT on a number of occasions but always end up deciding to stick with aslef i had an incident at a previous company and had aslef represent me at the hearing and i came out the end of it still being able to drive trains with a clean record, without union representation from someone who understands the job from the front end i dont know where id be now had they not been there
  21. You should have SOME sympathy for mr crow, he has been dead for almost 4 years!
