  1. I can reverse in shunt mode but it’s only 40kph max, it’s what I use in possession’s (obviously not at 40kph!)
  2. Have a look at the first picture in the link I posted to my shed thread, I’ve got 2 slat windows high up, not big enough to climb through and difficult to see through given the location of my shed
  3. Oh and you can’t set back either unless you are in shunt mode and if you get wheelslip or slide the system loses your position and you have to, no joke, turn it off and on again It’s the future
  4. Nice to see someone with a passion for his work Simon! Anyway I’ve asked the question of one of my drivers as to whether the restrictions come up in the DMI as temporary restriction (with associated symbol) or does the planning area just change as per PSR’s that will answer the question as to how they have been inputted, I’m he tto sign beyond Machynlleth so cant speak from experience of being in the drivers seat, I’ve only been in the 2nd mans side on a 158 recently Knowing what little I do about the working of the system I would suggest they are ‘temporary’ as I would hope the system wouldn’t ‘lose’ PSRs after a reboot
  5. The speeds involved and sighting on some of the crossings deemed to be dangerous remind me of this
  6. Because the sighting committee when out and deemed that a number of crossings (north of Dovey junction) no longer have sufficient sighting time for pedestrians to see a train approach Unfortunaly from a drivers point of view (more specifically a class 97 drivers point of view) these restrictions can add 10-20 mins to a ‘section’, ERTMS is set up so you input what type of train you are, standard 97, air brakes passenger 75mph, air brakes goods 60mph (there are more) which then calculates your braking curve Herein lies the problem, the computer currenly can only assume you have 12 vehicles on, you can’t change that in the cab, so will give you a braking curve for 12 vehicles which as you can imagine is a fair distance, I take a 97 down there on a test train, 97+3 vehicles+97=5 vehicles I approach a 10m long 25kph restriction over a foot crossing , Computer says I have to do 25kph 100 meters before said restriction And will not let me do any more, then I go across the restriction at 25kph BUT once clear the computer is then counting down 7 ‘invisible coaches’ across the restriction, however it then adds another 100m to the rear of the restriction before it opens up to allow me to accelerate, unfortunaly there are a number of these restrictions in a short space between Dovey and towyn so you quite simply just can’t get going! This is the future
  7. Yep, you get a symbol in the DMI (in cab screen) where the restriction starts and ends and you also get counted down to it by the speed curve The beauty of it is should a restriction be imposed it’s instant l, similarly once lifted its instantly removed by the signaller From what I can make out it was reported fairly rapidly by a driver (ok several hours may have passed since the reboot) so we’ll done to him for spotting it, TBH the restrictions in question have as the report says been in place a long time so they would have been pretty conspicuous by their absence Regards route knowledge, ERTMS is supposed to near as dammit do away with route knowledge/learning but incidents like this only highlight the proper need for it, when the system is down or indeed as I did 4 times last week if you are working within a possession you need to know where block markers are as if you went past the wrong one then it’s a spad but also you can’t as with TPWS override passing the authority on the move, you have to stop and do it (a block marker is the end of authority and there may be one/some within the possession you have to pass) so you need to know their locations, ok you are doing 40kph max (less in the possession) but you certainly don’t want to come screaming up to the marker and slam the brake in last second! There are from a drivers point of view a number of different forms (written orders) for various situations and there is one giving permission to proceed following failure or disconnection of signalling equipment, that situation may come about after a power outage or something where the signalling centre may have lost contact/position report from multiple trains and will not pick up a location until they pass over a Balieze and axle counters .......now the other week in my “down by the track thread” I said learning ERTMS was driving me mad and was struggling with it, can you see why?
  8. i know im only allowed one guess but as my las one was a wagon can i cancel that one and now suggest the class 89 no reason other than its a 'missing link' in produced locos
  9. yeah used that a couple of times when ive seen dodgy cars out and about
  10. I’ve never had an issue with them, the on line tax always goes smoothly when I do it and things like the MOT and tax check are very good too Bought a new car couple of weeks back and the owner did the paperwork on line too and I got the v5 in 3 days!
  11. I hope not, just started a conversion on a Dapol one!
  12. When I did mine years back I noticed that there were a couple of solder tabs under the chassis had the possibility of shorting out the chip if you fitted a 20x40 speaker without any housing It was that long ago it was before the introduction of the likes of sugercube speakers and small ‘decent’ bass enhanced speakers Found the thread, 7 years old!! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/48368-howes-sound-chipped-bachmannmpv-lok-sound-v35-version/?fromsearch=1
  13. Shed: class 66 Shed: made of wood Shed + Shed= class 66 + wood = KFA log carrier wagons Can I claim my prize now
  14. Some from this morning, ballast drop at Ty Pella, 15 hoppers, Top and tail 97s Stopped at llanbrynmair to drop off the operators Then it was up to tallerddig, both locos were powering up the bank, communication via radio to the driver in the rear loco as to when to power up And that’s me off for a week, a well earned rest is long overdue!
  15. I thought that was the case to what i’d clicked but as you can see the box is empty despite there being a post in a topic within the section As you say opening the section still allows me to see the new content and existing topics but i’d Like to be able to see the various topics in the main page overview
  16. While browsing the ‘full site’ on my mobile I accidentally clicked on the little blue ‘quotation mark’ symbol next to the BRM topics sub forum and now I can’t see the posts in that section in the overview Any idea what I’ve done and how I can bring the info back into view TA!!
  17. I’ll be thinking of you at 03:00 tomorrow morning while I’m sat in the middle of nowhere dropping ballast down there again!! Did a recording train from llandridnod to derby last night but too dark for pics, managed to get a train 2 hours early from derby to crewe and when I got back there I noticed 97302 in the platform, which I knew was my loco for tonight, couple of phonecalls revealed it has been left there as the driver who bought it over didn’t sign Basford hall so I offered to take it down there to save the first driver on it tonight a job! Fired it up and ended up smoking out the station, luckily the air came up quick and I managed to move it to the end of the platform away from the canopy, but not before Vitgin platform staff came and gave me a rollicking (nothing I could do really through!) Had to wait for a charter to arrive before setting off to the yard As I say that’s my loco for tonight down the Cambrian, got 15 auto hoppers behind it so I’m hoping they are all empty before tacking tallerddig!
  18. same here with my post! i always say they should put office staff out with a driver for a week shadowing a typical weeks diagrams, staying in the same hotels (or quality of hotels) driving the same distances in vans etc to actually see what the job entails away from actually driving trains in all fairness they are generally pretty good and will listen to you if you can think of a way of doing things better but at 3AM sat in a van in a layby in deepest mid wales trying to explain the problem you have been left with does get to you! sorry to go off topic again!!
  19. Funnily enough I had a similar rant to control last night when I was trying to explain why I couldn’t relieve my train at Dovey jn as per the roster (for those who don’t know Dovey jn famously does not have any vehicular access other than by train) am I was asked ‘why would they have you showing as relieving there then?’ My reply being on the lines of ‘because they don’t have a clue sat in the warm office of quite how remote and inaccessible places are down here while they are tucked up at 3am in their warm beds and were having to work extra time to get the train to an accessible place to relieve!’ (i.e Machynlleth) They also don’t quite grasp that the 90 miles between crewe and Machynlleth can’t be driven in a van in 90 minutes! Rant over, as you were.........
  20. Catching up with a few pics from the last week, been pretty much on the same job all week 68s on the flasks 88 on the Tesco express 97 in Machynlleth And back in crewe Llandrindod wells tomorrow night with a recording train
  21. Yeah, 70s can only run in multiple with other members of the same class Iirc 66 and 67 can work in multi though
  22. I never knew the ‘excursion platform’ was for belle vue zoo, sat in there for many an hour with llandudno turn backs when mayfield loop was full Not been onto longsight for a while, probably about due a refresh, we only tend to use X shed to stable the IM trains
  23. The attitude and bad feeling of some posters on rmweb just recently would try and make something sinister out of nothing just for the sake of an argument!! (Personally I’d like to have seen it unnamed)
