  1. If they chose zimo I wouldn’t be ordering any sound versions, too complicated for my liking
  2. I have used railtech numbers and cabside logos on it, strangely though I’ve not photographed it since I put them on (if I have yet, can’t remember!)
  3. crikey and we complain about the price of UK locos! it should say at the bottom "people who bought this also bought....a course of therapy" and its ugly too
  4. makes a change from "colas cowboys" i suppose
  5. dont forget to pay the toll on the new bridge if you came that way!!
  6. That picture is a long long time before Colas even existed (on the railway in this country)! Anyway went past the same place today with some Colas locos as it happens Now where did I leave my loco in the parking lot Into the station at crewe And away I went to Newport but got as far as nantwich to find the obstacle deflector barrier crossings booms going up and down, spoke to the box who said it was detecting an obstacle on the crossing, went down to have a look only to find one of the detector modules in the 6ft all smashed up, bent it back into position and luckily he managed to get a clear indication to allow the barriers to stay down and pull the signal off, quite how it got smashed I don’t know and the train 5 mins in front got through without issue! So off I went only to get to craven arms and be put in the loop due to cows on the line between Ludlow and Wooferton, sat there for an hour or so while it was resolved and a few passenger trains went by Bromfield And away to maindee jn where we turned back and recorded northbound, stopped in Hereford to drop my route conductor off and wait for a Holyhead train to depart And into crewe where I got off on the loop next to Lnwr And off it went to derby
  7. deep in the depths of the olivias thread are lots of comments about the chassis not being 'new', i think 'factory refurbished' would be a closer description, unfortunately those who voiced their displeasure with recieving a 'not new' item got treated to a dose of olivias legendary over the phone customer service still if your happy with it and it works when it arrives and it serves its purpose then thats all that matters
  8. if you read the descriptions a few posts up you will see they are loosely fitted (not actually nailed yet) ready to be refitted with the membrane to the rear and underside of the battens, its actually part of the spec from the building regs man that they have to be fitted
  9. Not too late, not bought the flooring yet, I’m gonna go for the big green chipboard panels having had a look into it
  10. But more woodwork done, took out the loose frame and nailed it all up And back in place as far as I could, need to get the electric box and plug socket moved first I then chopped some of the rear shelving back so I could carry on with the back panel And loosely in place, again got to get it out and nail it up etc Then as I was in the mood for it I carried on with the wall on the opposite side of the garage behind the freezer And the bit under the window That’s really as far as I can get panelling wise until I remove the last of the stuff from the garage into the shed to get to the rear wall, (I may well do that tomorrow but it also means the existing layout will not be able to be used and I can’t yet bring myself to face that!)
  11. it will have 75mm insulation, 25mm airgap, membraine to go on the rear too when i nail it all up, also got the thin strup of DPC to go under the wood as i fix it in place the 100mm insulation i mentioned previously will be whats going in the celing void with 25mm plasterboard/insulation below beam level (25mm airgap above the insulation) i was going to just run smaller nails into the insulation to keep it in place from the sides but i'm liking your idea of 25mm strip of wood to the rear instead yes the flooring in the pic is attic panels, i didnt realise they wouldnt be up to code, i had semi decided on the big sheets anyway as it should be cheaper and more solid than having numerous joints for the partition wall i was planning on using the 4x2 across the width of the garage lain on the floor (on the dpc strip) then build it up as per the side battens, 400mm gaps between uprights, filled with insulation etc, door frame kit from B&Q, standard plasterboard both sides, when the flooring is ready to be fitted ill then add a futher dpc/visqueen sheet nailed to the bottom battens all round and sit the polystyrene insulation on top of that then obviously the ply on that too
  12. Was using some tomato purée yesterday When I spotted this on the side! I keep looking but can’t see exactly what the suggestion is, turn the purée into hand drawn tomatoes with a sign in it and serve?
  13. Have you got 2 x 97s? Had that combo the other month with the beilhacks
  14. Payday Friday so will be ordering my NR pair then, nice to see they have used a piccie I supplied onbthe advert too There is a feature in the prototype in this months rail express mag modelling section (again featuring one of my pics)
  15. Big pile of wood Cut a few lengths up for the first ‘bay’, not nailed anything in place yet, 400mm centres between each upright as per the building inspectors spec, one gap will be 150mm though Got to get the fuse box removed from the wall to get one upright in place The board in this pic is roughly where the partition wall will be when complete Looking at flooring in B&Q too, can get 3 packs of these for £21 so £84 to do the whole floor, probably cheaper to buy big sheets of t+g ply though And maybe put some of this polystyrene sheeting under it, between 2’ Battens
  16. Some from last night Crewe, northern 323 unusually over in platform 6 waiting to head back to Manchester 60085 on the loop After leaving the train in Kingmoor it was off to the station for a train south, while I was there this came through heading to dalston I was then asked to work a diverted 6C88 back to Basford hall from preston which was a pair of 56s with a rail delivery train And uncoupled ready to stable And that’s yer lot for today
  17. A couple of examples could involve another new hattons products, the RHTT wagons and beilhack snow ploughs!
  18. Only one pic from last night, logs to carlisle, 2 hours late into crewe and diverted via Cannock after someone over the weekend put a padlock on the fuel plant at chirk and no one could get into it to fuel the loco, they got in in the end after another driver arrived with a spare key!
  19. Ordered the wood for delivery this Wednesday, got it from a local supplier, same family firm who I bought all the garden landscaping from over the last couple of years so I got a good price delivered and a bit of a discount too (and I like to keep it local) I thought while I wait for the door to be removed and bi-folds fitted I can at least crack on with battening out inside Bought 25 x 4.8 m lengths and a 3 x 3.5m lengths of 4x2 (100x47), I’m hoping my calculations are right! I’ve over ordered by a few lengths which should make up the internal stud wall too, just got to go screwfix and get a big bucket of 4”’nails tomorrow in preparation, I’ve got a good circular saw which should make life a lot simpler too I’m going to build the framework up loose then when ready to fit add the dampcourse membraine to the rear of the woodwork and below and screw it to the walls via the internal brick pillars so I’m not drilling through to the external wall Hopefully the door issue can be sorted next week too, I’m reluctant to remove the garage door myself as it’s sprung loaded, I think it’s just a case of winding back the springs to release the tension on the cable then I can safely remove it panel by panel, of course it needs to be done the same day as the bi-folds being fitted as I don’t want to leave the garage open (even though it will be empty) Unfortunatly as I’m now ready to do the battening I need to fully empty the garage of the last of the things I’ve kept such as bikes, jet wash, garden furniture etc which means the stuff in there needs to go in the shed so I’m going to have to pack up the stock from the layout, cut the track I’d fixed across the (non) removable section and take it out for good rendering the existing layout kaput!
  20. So they fixed 66017 then?, didn’t want to play ball last week and I had to rescue it after it shut down
  21. Some from yesterday, rail drop at dorrington Basford hall And back this morning
  22. Yes I think I got the last one in crewe but Northwich had 4 in stock hence why I mentioned it as it’s obviously something all stores have been instructed to sell off rather than it being a one off to shift the last one (ne naw, ne naw, ne naw.....RUN it’s the thread police!!)
  23. Simon I can think of one location off the Top if my head where a ground position signal can be left off after passage of trains, in fact it was the centre of an alledged spad investigation for us last year, it’s in a recently resignalled area (ROC controlled) Poor old Tom though, bet he wishes he’d not asked the question now!
  24. I once left the north end of Basford hall on the sub with a light engine then realised the signal was for the train in front of me, I’d been given permission to depart by the yard manager and took the signal before spotting the flashing tail light of the previous train that had been hidden behind an OHLE post, I hadn’t seen it go back (as it hadn’t) but having been given verbal permission I thought it was mine Luckily I’d only gone 1/2 a loco past it so was allowed to set back behind it and nothing was said!
