Level crossing stupidity...
big jim replied to Katier's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
already been done on the Cambrian under RETB, every crossing numbered, 196 alone between shrewsbury and Machynlleth, under ertms a lot have been shut but there are still numbered signs at the crossings which have remained open, for example ‘22’ is still there which I know to be hanselmans crossings, the signallers tend to ask have you passed crossing number XX and the name when they need to know your exact location, for example if someone has requested to use a crossing, ertms can’t tell the signaller your exact location ‘on a map’ as it were but does show them the trains meterage from point zero of the system (shrewsbury end of the line) -
First attempt at a scale scenes print your own kit last night, small station building mounted the bits on relevant thickness cards and it’s made quite a weighty solid little structure, need to print off some new ridge tiles as I scored the original ones wrong and I’ve not bothered with gutters and down pipes as I’ll put some plastic ones I have on instead for what it’s worth I’ve also got some interior bits to add such as chairs, vending machine etc

That’s mad that 165/0 aren’t allowed along the cotswold line when the GW version used to regularly work to Worcester and Hereford! -
must have left the direct brake on! joking apart being able to see them rotate is actually quite handy if your hauling a dead loco so you can see if the wheels are rotating properly, they are quite easy to see from the cab when looking back
-
Just get someone to blow a vape at the loco as it passes this is a vid taken by my dad of me passing longport with 66750 which was stone cold when I got to it, and hadn’t had a ‘clear out’ for over a month I of course gave it some leaving the loop too, it was clear by the time I got to Stoke station
-
There is a video somewhere of (at the time) my dads quarry Hunslet ‘Alice’ on the Leighton buzzard railway hitting a car that drove straight in front of it at a junction, the woman never saw or heard the train apparently! the vid shows her driving parallel with the train for a short while before doing a right hand turn in front of it, the locos Wooden dumb buffers hit the side of the car square on, made a right mess of it!

Yes It was a trial, hopefully it will lead to a new flow though -
that aged well!
-
The problem with coupling all these 153s to 158s and using 150s instead of 175 is the top speed is lowered from 90mph to 75mph which causes a lot of quite substantial delays over the the whole distance the train runs particularly between Newport and shrewsbury and crewe and Manchester, not just to the train itself but anything following it that could be doing 100mph where possible (crewe to Stockport for example) hopefully it won’t be long before the new WAG comes out with its Mk4 coaches and 67

Some from last night/this morning, coal train from crewe to Hereford, 66782 up front crewe And hereford hopefully the start of a new flow of all goes well Trafford park tonight -
Just run it at scale top speed you’ll never notice! Funny how there comments about a wonky decal spoiling the model but (most) people are happy to have incorrect painted out windows on the matching coaches
-
you can thank me later!
-
just don’t do what I nearly did, order one then realise it’s the N gauge version!
-
I’m not after absolute fidelity with the train with correct colours etc, (or even country) I was just after something ‘modern’ and little which would on the wagon, I’ll have a look at the M548 though ive really struggled to find any current RTR tanks hence why I went for the Personel carrier, certainly looks more realistic than a train of Sherman tanks behind a 66!
-
That’s the plan, get some more warflats and lots of the same carriers and a few land rovers etc the personnel carrier was only £10 off eBay and they are on there quite often, I think they are from a tank version of the hachette magazine railway part works when scale model scenery reopens after their move of premises I’ll get some mod containers ordered for the other flat wagons of course getting trains running first would help!
-
Everyone is reading too much into this, quite simply it was a bit warm today and someone has opened the container to discover the models have all melted!
-
Found out the rattle from the exhaust is in fact a knackered catalytic converter, unfortunately it’s part of the exhaust manifold so it’s going to need one of those now! Slowly losing my will to live with the blue car but on the plus side I was looking at putting a racing manifold and cat on it within the next 6 months anyway, just can’t afford to bring it forward to this month thanks to the cutch cylinder so that’s that car parked up on the drive for another month until I can get it done thankfully the weather is just right for the convertible
-
I must admit I very nearly ordered a sound biffa yesterday after Dave said they were imminent and I’d missed out on a sound large logo one last time and am happy with my non sound one glad I didn’t now, chances are I’ll miss a sound one again by the time I decide to order another (if I do) but it’s not the end of the world, I may just put the biffa money toward a sound chip direct from leggoman to go in my 66789
-
Yes I just got the email saying about the delay and the first place I came was here to see if anyone had exploded with rage!
