  1. Shhhhhhh...... They're probably mulling over the idea of a London Underground themed competition as we speak.....
  2. Perhaps Hornby are going to produce New Tooling for the venerable 101 0-4-0, correct in every detail.....
  3. Must say that I haven't been surprised by anything! Engine Shed to be monthly? A counter-productive bean-counting exercise. Surprise announcements at Warley? Unsurprising. As for the meat of this Engine Shed, I've no need for WCML motive power, so it wasn't very surprising either. Sooooo....
  4. Allegedly. They normally post at Noon...
  5. A week, and nothing much has happened! Looking at the "to do" list, all I've achieved is the cobbling together of some track for the Triang TT vehicles to run on, consisting of OO copperclad sleepers and code 75 rail soldered thereto. The diesel shunter is standing on the bridge for gauging purposes, eventually I might put a Brush Type 2 up there, whilst the shunter propels the wagon into the scene below. Oh, and there's a little man standing where the flagman/shunter might be keeping an eye on road traffic as the loco and its wagon emerge from under the bridge. The rest of the to-do list is still in force. In addition the time will come for some DAS to be applied for scribing into setts around and between the rails. Latest thinking is that only one side of the Drovers Road island platform on the viaduct will be visible, but there will be a low-relief platform building and some potential passengers hanging about. Its a good thing that there's bags of time...
  6. Makes note to check local purveyor on Monday You never know, GWRJ 103 might be in too, The Double!!!
  7. I did question my description and thanks for the correct usage! Dunno why the word crept into my mind.
  8. With a turnout like that, there wouldn't be this modernistic faffing about with electrical point motors, it'd be either operated by The Hand Of God moving a Hornby Dublo type point lever (a snail cam?), a wire in tube setup or even real point rodding.... Nowadays, we're all implementing Modernisation Plans with Power Boxes instead!
  9. I once saw some poor, benighted Orc wearing a tshirt saying "Middle Earth is Hobbit-Forming"...
  10. You need a twin-bore tunnel to inconvenience Henry!
  11. What he's actually saying: Inhale, then breath out slowlyyyyy...... giggle
  12. Seems like there's a case for getting hold of the Warner Brothers Entertainment IP Rights lawyers and remaking one of those old kinematic melodramas where the Hapless Heroine is tied to a railroad track in front of an approaching locomotive whilst the Evil Villain stands by twirling his moustaches! I'm sure the IP Rights lawyers won't mind being tarted up in a dress.
  13. Whenever I hear of the MiM, I feel really Bullied......
  14. I'm not worried about 258, its nowhere near the peaks of delayedness that GWRJ 103 is currently scaling!
  15. Or, as Sellar and Yeatman might have directed; "Discuss joyfully"... n.b. Do not on any account attempt to write on both sides of the paper at once.
  16. I was thinking it might emerge from the cakebox, rather like the Camberwick Green musical box. Or perhaps not.
  17. Whatever you do, don't turn the brass handle anticlockwise before pulling......
  18. Before the last incarnation of the Hornby Club went belly-up, as well as Railroad models like the 0-4-0s, the Jinty and the Terriers there was also the BoB "Manston" and the white-roofed "Flying Scotsman", which were mainstream locos and both in BR liveries. On the other hand the wagons on offer were lower-tier Railroad and correspondingly dire! The club magazine improved towards the end too. I must admit that I only joined the Club at that time to get Manston and the two Terriers, which were considerably less expensive than the catalogue equivalents. I never had any occasion to buy anything with the club discount, it was always cheaper to shop around the retailers. I'll wait until the club models are revealed before making a decision. At present, the benefits of club membership don't make the club subscription attractive.
  19. Why is the woman balancing a thick crust pizza on her head?
  20. I've a feeling that the pic was taken on a Sunday (hence the full stabling sidings) and I think the unit in platform 1 has just arrived from Liverpool. It was common to have a 3 car set temporarily stabled in the platform during off-peak hours with space for another three car unit to pull in at the Liverpool end of the platform. Come peak, the two would be coupled together and romp off to Liverpool. If you look closely at the base of the starter signal, you can see the remains of the water column from when the line was steam-worked up to the introduction of the 503s in the late 30s.
  21. I know you're well beyond this phase now, but I thought you might like to see a few pics I took at West Kirby in the early 80s.... Overview of the station with stabled units, from Bridge Road Class 503 from the platform A view of the station concourse
  22. Some Class 503 action from the early 80s... Overview of West Kirby Station, with stabled units Unit from station platform Potential passengers? Wouldn't mind a London Saveaway for £13 now!
