  1. It just clicked..... "From A Railway Carriage" by RL Stevenson Faster than fairies, faster than witches, Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches; And charging along like troops in a battle, All through the meadows the horses and cattle: All of the sights of the hill and the plain Fly as thick as driving rain; And ever again, in the wink of an eye, Painted stations whistle by. Here is a child who clambers and scrambles, All by himself and gathering brambles; Here is a tramp who stands and gazes; And there is the green for stringing the daisies! Here is a cart run away in the road Lumping along with man and load; And here is a mill and there is a river: Each a glimpse and gone for ever!
  2. The gauge wars are bad enough, without getting into the minutiae of authentic brick-laying...... I'd suggest different densities of weathering to imply older/newer brickwork, at least that's what I'm going to do! Anyhow, general grot hides a multitude of sins... Weeds, rust, potholes, slime stains, oh my!
  3. If you do, I want to be well outside the blast radius...... It'd cost more to ask them than the cover price of 103!
  4. But so ideal for the challenge! And "Old Fashioned Fruitcake" describes most of us to a T......
  5. Given the size of the police module, the problem could be fitting a model American car into the cakebox and still being able to see the policeman and his vehicle.....
  6. Yes, but the sparks and smell of scorched hair can be quite distressing. And you should see the speed that a reanimated hamster gets out of one of those transparent balls.....
  7. I know GWRJ and MRJ have separate publishers, but are the distributers the same? Now that they've pushed MRJ down the pipeline, perhaps GWRJ will follow! (To inject a measure of coarse levity, perhaps someone should send them a carton of Fybogel with the instructions to use all the sachets AT ONCE!)

    MRJ 258

Went for haircut Visited purveyor Bought copy Very likable content*! * ie, lots of ideas to "borrow".... Now just the extended wait for GWRJ 103
  9. They are bad enough when powering themselves, but being towed by a 20? Bumpity-bumpity-bump..... I still value my spine!
  10. I know there's been talk of late October/early November, but I'd have thought it would be the sort of entertainment they'd save for Christmas viewing.
  11. The boundaries of a cake box, size specifed, are fairly monochromatic, unless you're pushing the edge of the envelope! I'm looking forward to all the creative solutions that will pop out!
  12. One should always be careful of what one wishes for.....
  13. Definitely not being an electrical expert, that post covers the concerns I have with my two elderly Hornby Dublo controllers, an almost as old Triang controller and a very old Hornby transformer block with a tapping selector switch (looking straight out of Frankensteins lab) on the side! (Image borrowed from the internet as mine isn't to hand for photography! Also, that one looks like it's been rewired, I think mine has a red/black cotton covered cable) I think that last item definitely qualifies this post as "Coarse Scale O Gauge"...
  14. Followed by the 1975 catalogue, the front of which illustrated the Rocket that wasn't in current (Triang) Hornby production and two others, Jenny Lind and City of Truro, that have never been in either the Triang-Hornby or Hornby catalogues! Only a problem if we're in a Corgi thread! Context is all...
  15. Shouldn't there be a little chap nearby, with a ferocious scowl, pounding the hell out of a side drum?
  16. You elitist swine! We had to share our hole in the ground....
  17. Perhaps this thread should be re-labelled "Cakebox Challenge - discussion thread" and a new pinned and locked thread posted with the rules and any amendments created so there's a quick reference for newcomers and the forgetful...
  18. Oh lor'... Thats even worse than when Percy tried to run the Sodor mail contract! (I think the words "failed to perform" were used....)
  19. The one scrapyard idea that I might have implemented would involve the disposal of "Flying Scotsman", though in terms of iconoclastic horror, showing the gas axe to "Thomas" is a pretty good equal! Go on, give it a go - the more the merrier!
  20. All this talk of letting people eat cake is getting a bit woirrying....
  21. 851 Drake, Francis. Sah! Sorry, caught a bit of Dads Army earlier on.....
  22. My gramophone also has the 16rpm "Talking Book" speed, a bit more sedate.... But if you want a Bullet Train, you could always use 78rpm!
  23. So that might mean Native Americans voluably objecting to the Iron Road crossing their sacred lands Outlaws trying to rob the train, waving their Colt 45s at you Lonely goatherds. And so on... Think of the fun you could have devising a soundtrack and sound effects to go with each scene... Oh Noes!!!! I've just had another brainwave too!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Can't trust the judges cakebox to be free of cake residue. I don't want jam/cream/crumbs over my monsterpiece! Drat - another idea just squirreled its way into my consciousness...
