  1. Or, at least there should be potted ferns or palms to indicate that its "art"...
  2. Actually, its less revealing than the JA wet tshirt post you made last July... Perhaps we ought to start looking for new Pre-Raff pictures!
  3. I suppose there's not many electric railways where lifebelts would be mandatory safety equipment!
  4. Nahhhh. He was feeling peckish and had jumped in to filter some algae from the canal water....... btw How did things go today? I've got it recorded, but I'll watch it on Tuesday, when there's nothing on!
  5. Well they did say that the drum machine wasn't "Echo", so who knows, and it was thought that the stickiness of the floor would keep you upright... Fun times!
  6. A few hours away from the computer and we've all gone philosophcal and In Our Timey! Some pretty good points and, given the babblings of the self-proclaimed Stable Genius, all I can echo is, "pass me the duvet"! Ahh EaTB.... I saw them at Erics when they still had the drum machine! (Now there's a place where "falling down drunk" didn't apply as the floor was so sticky...)
  7. I've no problem with lawyers at all, provided that they're on MY side! Otherwise, I prefer the Shakesperean assessment.....
  8. I recall seeing a most instructive film about loose clothing and machinery, one section with reference to ties and lathes was particularly distressing and caused some fainting incidents in the viewing I attended. (I was told by one of the lecturers that this was quite common...)
  9. May I offer the Mersey Railway as a fine example of a pre-Grouping electric railway? Built as an underground steam railway, it was converted to electric traction in 1903. In fact, it was never "Grouped", but kept its independence, and American style stock, until Nationalisation. It made an end on connection with the LMS owned Wirral Railway at Birkenhead Park. The Wirral Railway was electrified in the late 30s, with stock built by the LMS (eventually classed as 503 by BR). (A 503 on the Mersey loop for completeness, though not pre-Grouping by any stretch of the imagination!) LMS and Mersey Railway stock could use both systems.
  10. Seeing as I've got the big 'puter back and its the JA appreciation hour, I had a look for the "Wet-tshirt" style shot. Having found it, I decided that it was a bit too much to (re?)post.... Too tittilating, if you get my drift! I've just been doing a little research, and if you go back to post #4459 in these parish records, you'll find the original posting. Definitely not suitable garb for a chilly January evening!
  11. OMG! Almost a wardrobe malfunction there......
  12. I didn't buy one in the Advent Calendar sale, but I did when ebay (not rails) were offering 20% off purchases for the day at the end of December. £55.60, not bad....
  13. All thats needed is a couple of crocodile clips at one end and whack some volts through the lot... Actually, the terminals of a PP3 battery fit nicely between 4mm scale tracks and 9v is enough to get a (DC) loco going without it vanishing completely over the horizon! There's magic and there's magic... And the main magic is watching things work!
  14. Now all you need do is power them up and send a real loco through them. Better sooner than later!
  15. There does seem to be a fair amount of "Scottish Blue" layouts. Probably something to do with the colour, woad, the Saltire and so on... As for diesel MPDs, sound-fitted or otherwise, its a logical thing to do. Especially if you have an inordinately large collection of Heljan Pilot Scheme locos. It seems a perfectly natural environment to keep them in. A Scottish MPD could have a line of Claytons awaiting their fate! (Wondering if I've done enough to draw a crowd with pitchforks...)
  16. Mark Williams, who plays Father Brown certainly IS a railway enthusiast. That old MRC is probably personal property to while away time between takes....
  17. Sounds like an Early Day Motion debate......
  18. Given that a Hornby TTS sound decoder retails at about that price and you can park it in a platform bay/back of the goods yard for spot sound effects, or have it trundle around behind a goods train, AND you get a ventilated van that normally costs about a tenner, then its worth taking a punt with one. Imagine a short pick-up goods train of them, all making different sounds..... After a quick look - due January 2019? Surely a bit protracted for a box van and sound decoder lash up! Anyhow Fav online retailers quoting £32.50 to £34 (+ delivery!), Hornby £40 (probably inc delivery). Thinking caps time!
  19. Rising to the bait? More like stating the obvious.... Well, the first of Churchwards "modern image" 4-6-0s emerged in 1902, basically what would become a Saint though with a parallel boiler rather than the familiar conical job. Given that 1902 date, you could probably say that its a Victorian loco... The first Star 4 cyilnder locos followed and then the GWR imported some Froggy compound Atlantics for comparison to find that the "simple" Stars beat the pants off them, even when some were re-wheeled to become Atlantics to level the playing field a bit. The Atlantic Stars were, of course, re-wheeled back to 4-6-0s after the experiment. As for the County 4-4-0s, they were cut down Saints, built because the LNWR wouldn't allow the GWR to run anything bigger than a 4-4-0 on the joint mid-Wales line. As a stop-gap they were reasonably successful, even if prone to wobble a bit when pushed, which is understandable as they had an unmodified Saint front end!
  20. Oh, come ON! If you want elegant and successful Edwardian 4-6-0s, Churchwards Stars and Saints are the exemplars of the genre. H, C & definitely O!
  21. Speaking of clockwork locos, its a pity that Hornby couldn't produce a clockwork version of the Bulleid Q1......
  22. Just seen it on the BBC website - again confusion about where trains stop! Hope the fire service get things under control.
  23. A perfect prototype for a tinplate O gauge loco. I'd say the key would go about "there".....
  24. Nelsons last post was HMS Victory, he was then elevated to a column! H,C & O......
