  1. We did log tables at school as an introduction to the slide rule, the sliderule being explained as a "log table on a stick". A couple of years later, the first affordable electronic calculators were being produced.... I've still got a Casio scientific calculator somewhere. rPn Calculators were mainly the preserve of showoffs who could afford an HP calculator. As I remember, the Jupiter Ace personal computer used rPn too, that and the feature that it was programmed in FORTH were key factors in its failure to gain a following! I also had a cheap electronic calculator that would attempt to divide by zero, endlessly chasing its tail.
  2. I scored 1 merely because I never rented videos from anyone! However, can I claim a minus 1 for accessing bulletin boards by dial up 300 baud modem to balance that out?
  3. I have a butane powered weed burner, effective but runs through the gas canisters rapidly. I tried an electric one, but it wasn't very effective on large clumps (even on full blast). I may try it again on small fresh growths, it might be more effective on those. You can also get battery powered scarifiers, with a rotating wire brush that scrubs the weeds out of the gaps. I've seen them advertised but not tried one!
  4. I made the 'arf 'arf 'arf sound while applauding....
  5. But then all he has to do is put the brakes on and light the afterburners, then reposition several times. Should burn the weed and moss off! Of course, the cost of fuel might be more than a few deltics..... I understand from our aviation expert that the Hunter does not possess afterburners, so it'll just have to sit there at full throttle* for a little while longer to obtain the same effect. Fuel cost will probably be similar... * Praying that the brakes hold...
  6. Its the film of the book! 🤪
  7. But green is pretty and restful for the eyes, unlike that harsh red colour! Shades of Grey (Jasper Fforde) describes the "restfulness" of green...
  8. Look for the book "The Lighthouse Stevensons", an interesting read. And if it wasn't for his reaction against the family firm, RL Stevenson wouldn't have written Treasure Island...
  9. Both Jadlam Racing and Rails of Sheffield are offering the (in stock) Hornby TT:120 Easterner set for £175.49. Jadlam come out slightly ahead as they offer free shipping! £175.49 is equivalent to an A4 loco and one coach bought separately...
  10. Gary The Parrot is even weirder than his "owner"... Have a fun evening!
  11. I must say that I don't IDENTIFY as a "whippersnapper"! 🤪
  12. Popped out early to throw a greeting card in the post and had a quick canter around Sainsbugs while I was out. I did notice quite a bit of traffic on the road, some was definitely commuter, but the majority on the way back were Mad Mumsies* on the Skool Run... * Lemmings, I tell you!!!!

    Note: Do not use indoors...
  14. The same happens in "railway towns" like Swindon, where end terrace houses were to a better spec, for workers with "responsibilities". Port Sunlight on the Wirral, built by Lever for the workers in their soap factory exhibits similar differentiation, though that has more of a Garden City vibe, rather than mere rows of brick terraces!
  15. Happy Birthday! That makes you 8 days older than me...🤔
  16. Going for the double... All Around My Hat - Steeleye Span Ithenkyow!

  18. Those curves don't even look Radius 1!
  19. Too sensible for a Cunk script, never mind, just send three and fourpence...

    EBay madness

You can't see it because it ended and trundled off to pastures new? 🤔
  21. Build it as a bridge, and park the bus on the roof... Just a thought!
  22. Hail! Hail! The rain is here! Well, there's no hail, but you know what I mean!
  23. Looks marvellous, but its probably only safe to eat one a year...
  24. Something similar here... Grey skies but supposedly sunny until 2pm then showers ✅ Bin ✅ Amazon ✅ Parallel Metal Thingies ✅ Hope the brandy gets through safely this time!
  25. My weapon of choice for dealing with squirrels was a Nerf gun. A head shot produced a delightful "pock" sound, and the squirrel would scamper off, dazed, into the bushes... Worked well on pigeons too!
