Thats been bid up by prospective buyers. I didn't look for the starting price, but it looks like its an example of buyer cupidity rather than vendor greed.

As Benny Hill might say "They've got Big Buffers!" (Like Hattons put on their 16"Barclay, "Katie"...)
  3. The main difference is that when calling a "local" number you now have to use the whole number, and not just the exchange+subscriber number you used to get away with. I appreciate you can store frequently called numbers in the phone memory, but on infrequently called numbers its an extra four digits to key in. Its as much faff as using a mobile, VOIP is the fibre optic equivalent... And all this technology was meant to make things more simple and easy to use!

The other interesting thing about Mr Blobby is that the "customiser" has applied a whacking big D tension lock coupling in place of the more modern small TLC the loco originally came with! And removed the coupling entirely at the "face" end, fitting the Hornby supplied cosmetic chevron piece instead, a bit pointless for a Thomas environment!
  5. Nice to see the old ones given an airing! There was the possibly apocryphal tale of a GWR porter advising an elderly passenger that the best route to her destination would be to use the WC & P.... Like Queen Victoria, she was not amused!
  6. That would be the Post-Apocalyptic slide rule?
  7. Oh, he's moonlighting for the 60th Anniversary?

(trimmed down the link excess) Looking at "Item Specifics" I counted the wheels on the loco and it's definitely NOT a streamlined B17..... 🤪
  9. 1 is, of course, Terry Pratchetts "Avec", even though it doesn't actually mention the word itself. Its useful shorthand if you know the code and unuseful if you don't. 2 is straightforward and says what you're getting. 3 is foodie verbal diarrhoea. It deserves to end " with spam"... The list should be ordered 2, 1, 3 according to Gwiwers "Degrees of Cheffiness" I think I'll choose something else, so long as it doesn't include Brussels Sprouts!
  10. Only ONE wagon? I expected that you would need a fleet...
  11. About as much chance as winning the lottery. Yes, it might happen to someone, but not to you....
  12. To be fair to the BBC, one of the problems is that they are running out of the output valves for the longwave transmitter, and they've not been manufactured for decades. The BBC beancounters may well have come to the conclusion that it would not be cost effective either to commission new valves or a modern longwave transmitter of equivalent power for what they see as a niche listening segment.
  13. At least there's no problem with disposing of it in January!
  14. The same thing appears to be happening in my garage too. No matter how many boxes I empty, there still seems to be just as many! Today, for example, I found a box of locos I kept to run on Super 4 track, because they seem to bounce off the chairs of code 100 track, including my only Flying MoneyPit (with Chuffing Sound). And there's still more, much more....
  15. A nice "chamber" version of Vom Himmel Hoch. I have always liked the "Christmas Mass" interpretation*, lots of colour! * I was browsing in the Classical section of a Virgin Megastore when the CD was first released. They were playing it as their featured CD at the time and I was so impressed that I left with a copy!
  16. The Decorated/Illuminated Houses are starting to pop up here, I saw two last Saturday after I visited a Christmas Fair...

    Wow! Is that... Mr Blobby?

  19. Amazon are back to their ring the bell and run away antics again. It took me probably about ten seconds to open the front door from the first ding-d0ng of the bell, and by time I'd opened it the delivery operative was long gone and the package left in full sight of potential passers by. They even sent me an email to say it had been delivered, with a photo proudly showing where the package had been abandoned... Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
  20. Have you got to be in what they consider a "vulnerable" group to get that? I wasn't offered a backup mobile phone when I was converted, though I did get a couple of free cordless phones to use with the BT Hub after conversion.
  21. She was only a Chief Inspectors Daughter, but... An early attempt at "conversion therapy"???
  22. You don't have to have a mobile for everyday use, a cheap 4G payg phone from Argos (£24 with initial airtime) would be adequate. Once the airtime has expired, you can still use the phone for 999 calls, which is the main reason for having it as a standby. Of course you're still at the mercy of signal strength...
  23. Dunno. Could be useful in calculating who* might have to do a Captain Oates.... * There could be a requirement for several to do so...
