  1. Their steak bake looks ok... It takes time of the popular press to catch up with things. Yesterday, one of the broadsheets reported on the growing of Haricot beans in the UK which was mentioned by the BBC back in October... I didn't see that one, at least I don't recall the musical selection!
  2. I see that a couple of posts have attracted the attentions of the Net Nanny!
  3. Yesterday we were told that some Covid Kids were starting school without being toilet trained. I take it that its code for they were still in nappies...
  4. By Jove, its ccccold..... Never mind, the heatings on and its fish'n'chips for tea!
  5. Saw the Pogues twice in the mid-80s at the Liverpool Students Union. Excellent gigs!
  6. Is he back in the charts yet? It might be a battle between Merry Xmas Everybody and Fairytale of New York... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67546785
  7. Youse won't take me alive copper!!! (Dougie dog tears the squeaks out of furry toys...)
  8. From the top.... Makes Carter look like a disappointed ferret* What the hell is PolyColumbo noshing on? I'm sure Sgt Ackland would have Bear in for impersonating a police officer! Evenin' All! (Look out, Dirk Bogard is behind you! He's got a GUN!!!) The only realistic Bear copper in the lot! You're NICKED sonny!!! * Although as he's "white" he'd properly be an Ermine, which is a Stoat in a winter coat. But ferret sounds better!
  9. No. 🙃 Are those curtains in the cab windows???

I've a motor in the "spares" box that looks just like that, don't know where it came from, or when I got it! I don't know if it even works...

    Ah! That's important!!
  12. I couldn't figure it out either! It wasn't that heavy when I brought it in. Does RM have volumetric restrictions too? It didn't seem any bigger than previous stuff that I've had by RM. RM just didn't come up on the list of delivery options, otherwise I'd have chosen it!

No wonder it's an inconsistent runner, the l/h pickup is sticking out between the wheels! And 80 quid....... We'll pass over "Stanier" 🤪🤪🤪 , as he was assistant to the Divisional Locomotive Superintendent in London when the 43xx was designed, so wouldn't have had a hand in that...
  14. The HD crane was 1959 - 61/2 so in the 50s* even! * Just!
  15. I was just going to mention that. If I recall correctly, the current passed through a lightbulb, which was supposed to be a safety feature, but a short-circuit could be dicey... We'd have to find an Archaeological Ferroequinologist to explain! Vaguely I do recall a cat being discommoded...
  16. A very Edwardian practice. There was a childrens encyclopedia published back then* and one entry discussed "The Modern Electric Home". A cutaway house showed all the ways electricity could make life more comfortable for a wealthy middle-class family (and allow the servants to be more productive). In the nursery, a nurserymaid was shown ironing the childrens clothes. The electric iron was powered from a string of connectors dangling from a light fitting. another connector powered a lightbulb and another led down to the track of an electric toy train being played with by a young boy and his sister... * Just remembered its name, "Arthur Mees Childrens Encyclopedia".
  17. And now for something completely different... I've come to the conclusion that DCC Sound fitted locos are an insidious gateway drug. After using them for a while, you wonder whats gone wrong when you activate an ordinary DCC fitted loco.... And then start thinking expensive thoughts about upchipping the soundless ones.
  18. They do seem to be retrenching quite a bit. I visited a local "outlet" concentration place for some of the calendar/diary sets they offer and they were pulling out of there too. Stock was rubbish and there were no calendars to be seen. I'll have to go into the town branch, which is a bummer as parking is expensive.

I think... 🤢🤮 I didn't think anyone had to ask!
  20. Yes, they did it AGAIN!!! Those delivery vans shift faster than a RB F1 car. Today the sun sets at bang on 16:00 (less than 10 mins to go as I type) and the BBC weather app predicts sub-zero temps overnight. Heating will be ON once it goes dark...
  21. I was naughty and bought some stuff from Hattons in their Black Friday sale. I'm now waiting for an Amazon delivery of the stuff, evidently its too heavy for Royal Mail... Its just entered delivery slot land, from now until 18:15. I wonder if they'll just ring the bell and run away AGAIN!
  22. Its the global aircon having a hissy fit... Someone'll fix it in six months time!

Pilot episode. Didn't realise the YT poster was chattering all through! Grrrrr.....
  24. You could have named the currency to Roos and Joeys. Ideosyncratic, not following any other currency names AND a laugh at forex desks!
