  1. I've one of those illuminated wooden ones that Aldi sold a few years ago. The little drawers are currently loaded with individual choccy treats* from a Celebrations tub. Much more enticing than doing the circuit of some tedious SocialMeeja sites. * But not the Bounty ones! 🤢
  2. Is that a Sonic Screwdriver in your left hand???
  3. Captain Slog: Stardate 20231201.14.55 I appear to have lost the thread.....
  4. From the kitbash thread, posted by BlueLightning My comment was a bit sidetracked there! That was when they were showing off their new 3D printer. It might be that it was essentially a "training project" that was picked on by the TV production team as something whacky to fill in a bit of airtime. The oversize issue may be due to some of the printer scaling being a bit "off". You never know, it might still emerge as a starter set loco to allow Hornby to rest the other body styles for a while. Or not!
  5. Well, I'm beginning to think that the new marketing team were told to set up an "Advent Calendar" but couldn't be bothered to do it the way it was previously run. There is a T&C page https://uk.Hornby.com/community/blog-and-news/competitions-1/advent-calendar-terms-and-conditions The main rule seems to be "Advent competitions will only be held on one platform a day. So, remember to check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube or this page for your chance to enter.", which I'm beginning to think means you have to visit each platform a day until you locate the current "competition", rather than the previous Advent Calendar page that would link you to the competition platform. Much less work for them and more traffic to their social media platforms. Given that, unless a traditional Advent Calendar page appears on the Hornby website, it seems pointless to attempt to track their Advent competitions.
  6. Its rather nice to be a member of what turns to be a dark and shadowy cult, even though I never realised that was so when I joined! However, the BBC? You're probably barking up the wrong tree, C5 would snap up your proposal in a heartbeat!
  7. He sounds positively agricultural. Did he do work for the Wurzles?
  8. Its what I've always done, it's an ideal proposal for any Rule 1 layout!

  10. Oh lord, its back!!! From the email... Hornby’s countdown to Christmas starts now! December is our favourite month of the year, as we get to give back to our valued customers. Our advent calendar includes an exciting giveaway every day until Christmas! What will you find behind each door? Advent competitions will only be held on one platform a day. So, remember to check Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube or the Hornby website for your chance to enter. So there. I'll keep everyone updated day by day, until you're sick to the back teeth of it all! Merry Christmas/ Bah Humbug! as you prefer... At present, though the Hornby email says there is a calendar, there's currently no link to it.
  11. I didn't want to mention the Hornby lo-tech sound option earlier... Didn't R845 have the glowing firebox too? I know the M7 of the same era had that as well as an opening smokebox door to reveal the boiler tubes, though it didn't have room for a chuffing mechanism! The old B12 had the chuffer box too. I found it preferable to move the scraper on the axle sideways and make the chuffing sounds myself!
  12. Happy Birthday! My parents got a Greetings Card for their 60th Wedding anniversary (Which I had to apply for...), they were proud to receive it. My father passed away less than six months before he was entitled to his Centenary card, though in hindsight that was a blessing as he would have been caught out by the first wave of Covid. Good luck!!!
  13. Useful when an irate taxpayer takes issue with their tax assessment!
  14. Thanks for the clarification! Though in some parts of the UK, if the things grew here then it might grow through their thongs... Embarassing or possibly painful!
  15. Or at least, no worse! 🤔
  16. Hope you've had the chimbly swept beforehand!
  17. Must be some transdimensional relative of BSJ. "Look, I did what it said on the plans!". Welcome to the underbelly... 🤪
  18. Christmas comes but once a year!
  19. Frosted Lagomorphs! Its the last month of the year, where did it all go? 🤔
  20. A quirky name, but the Dental lab is very much the unsung backroom workshop of clinical dentistry, producing dental appliances to the prescription of the dental surgeon. Most labs have no connection with the general public, though some technicians may practice as "denturists". Its a long time since I've had contact with dental technology and some details may have changed!
  21. Better get The Johnster in! More seriously, some DCC sound chips can produce appropriate sounds automatically when run on DC, but thats a fairly expensive approach. Train Tech* make self contained sound modules for steam, diesel and electric locos which sense movement and don't have to be wired in, and are priced around 40 to 50 quid. eg: https://www.hattons.co.uk/75949/train_tech_sfx10_sound_capsule_battery_powered_express_steam_locomotive/stockdetail I bought one of the Diesel sound versions to put in a Hornby Railroad Class 31 some time ago, and it worked well enough to give some ambience to operations. * Now part of the Gaugemaster empire.
  22. Not been inside a Greggs for years. Its been even longer since I've been inside a Mcdonalds.... 🙃
  23. Their steak bake looks ok... It takes time of the popular press to catch up with things. Yesterday, one of the broadsheets reported on the growing of Haricot beans in the UK which was mentioned by the BBC back in October... I didn't see that one, at least I don't recall the musical selection!
  24. I see that a couple of posts have attracted the attentions of the Net Nanny!
