I've a black plastic Dapol branded Drewery Shunter from the Northwich era. The plastic seems to be more rigid than that used nowadays, and it seems flash free*. I haven't built it so I can't tell how it goes together compared with more recent Dapol kits. I think the current plastic is a compromise to reduce wear on the tooling. * I actually bought it from our favourite Mendacious Chiseller. It was cheaper than the current Dapol kit!

  3. Hi Dave, good to see you back! ION I've just had some "salted drinking chocolate". It wasn't just salted drinking chocolate, it was M&S salted drinking chocolate. It was most unpleasant. 9. The "Cold Scene" is remarkably similar to the opening of "Winter" by Vivaldi! Purcell got there first as "The Four Seasons" was published in 1723, a little under 30 years after Purcell died.

It is indeed well made, going by the photos. If its a Dapol kit, it must be a fairly early one as the one I tried to use for a similar exercise was made that flash-ridden cheap grey stuff that is distorted due to the tooling deteriorating with age. I gave up after a while. If I wanted a Deltic prototype, I'd grit my teeth and get either a Bachmann one or the Hornby "collectors" version.

  17. Just googled a couple of the visible engine numbers. The Crab 42814 was withdrawn in autumn 1965 and 46238 City of Carlisle in autumn 1964, so it's not just "60s" but it's "early 60s"! An enjoyable film!

All the clues are in the last photo. R759 is for "Albert Hall", for example. It looks like its from a tender powered loco. There's hooks at the front for an X04, but no tapped hole for the fixing screw at the back. It makes me think that its repurposed for a tender drive loco like "James the Red Engine" but Hornby didn't bother to change the bottom stamps and left out the finishing for loco drive.
