Its amazing what a 9v battery can do. I recently tested a Dapol O gauge Terrier using a 9v battery that I usually use for testing OO gauge locos (the terminals fit across the wheels very nicely). Even that well-used battery sent the Terrier scurrying up and down the track in a very sprightly manner! Saw this in ebay madness. Sometimes "too hot" is possible... (but it does show how robust an X04 motor can be to generate so much heat...)
