I went the 3D print way. This, the first one was 7mm. The 4mm 1881 LBSCR train is almost complete also. Bogies were easier in 7mm!

A freind also had a very bad reaction to IPA - he now uses Meths and finds it works out cheaper, dries more quickly and doesn't seem to have the problem of becoming saturated and needing replacing regularly. I have started to use it also and am finding the same. He is still very sensitive to IPA but now has no issues when cleaning.

A Question On LBSCR Buildings
ianmaccormac replied to nest's topic in Pre-Grouping - Modelling & Prototype
I just wish the technology had been better all those years back. I would love to see them again and get them copied at a higher resoltion. I used to live in Uckfield and go to school in Lewes so went and measured the place up in about 1973. I remember being helped by a girlfriend whose family owned what is now the Stroudley 1st 6 wheeler at the bluebell. Spent a few times in the old cottage built round it in east Wittering when I and another had a car. I think I went by train to Seaford when I measured the place. I remember going back when I had a motorbike in 1977 and measured up the bits I had missed. I believe only the station building exists now. Anyway, hope they are of use, Cheers, Ian -

Mini Heater for 3D Printer, HCSSZ Lightweight 3D Resin Printer Temperature Controller Heating Thermostat Temp Control with Activated Carbon Filter for LCD DLP 3D Printers Brand: HCSSZ Bought from Amazon. I thought about a slightly cheaper version of the same thing from AliExpress but needed it quicker as it was early January so paid the extra 8 pounds from Amazon. Working well. Cheers, Ian -
Saturn 4 ultra - I just bought one
ianmaccormac replied to monkeysarefun's topic in 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, CAD & CNC
He also said a chamber heater wouldn't work but I bought one a few weeks back and it is giving very good results in my Saturn 2, heating the build plate and the resin to above 25 degrees within about 20 minutes and then, because it has a thermostatic switch, it turns off most of the time. I start printing and when the print has started the UV light underneath heats the resin quite well and the heater hardly gets used. I am considering a purchase of the Saturn 4 as large loco and carriage body parts being released more effectively, appeals. Cheers, Ian -
Excellent news indeed!!!!

Wheels too wide for bogies - What to do?
ianmaccormac replied to BrakeCoach's topic in 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, CAD & CNC
I would take a look at any commercial bogies you have and try and work out how they have handled the same issue. Then adapt it to yours. -
Just don't get yourself tied up in knots!

This picture from the www shows a live steamer three and a half inch gauge. Looks like the axleboxes and compensating beams and spring arrangement is all fixed to the bogie with very limited clearances for going around a curve. How does it work? 3 1/2 inch gauge Caledonian Railway "Dunalastair" - Stock code 8336 (stationroadsteam.com) Cheers, Ian in Blackpool

Commissioning?
ianmaccormac replied to Lacathedrale's topic in 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, CAD & CNC
Stick with doing it yourself. I started in March 2019. First goes here. The latest things I am doing are these: If you do little and often, it gradually gets to the point where you can add all the parts up and suddenly there is a whole loco there! Great fun. And then you get exactly what you want yourself! Cheers, Ian- 9 replies

Slaters do a 2'9" bogie wheel on a one eighth inch axle, see if you can just purchase the tyre?Roxey have 2'8" solid metal diesel wheels. Use Markits return crank system for 4mm or 7mm which should be able to be adapted - pictures on Roxey Mouldings web pages, etch body and chassis from NS using PPD to get everything on one etch with 3D printed boiler, roof, etc and get the slidebars and cylinders printed in one piece and cast using eg Scale Factor who will work with your stl files. Might you require a gearing system to drive the second wheel on the drive bogie for better traction? Cheers, Ian

You don't seem to have considered Alan Gibson, Peartree or Roxey suppliers??
