  1. There is a fascinating book "Luftwaffe Over Scotland: A History of German Air Attacks on Scotland, 1939-45" that I would recommend, it details most of the raids that were carried out, I was amazed to see that Peterhead was raided so many times. Jim
  2. Incredibly there was another bizarre disallowed perfectly good goal in the very same goalmouth some years ago, watch about 1min 30sec in on the video on this page https://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/2014/01/30/dundee-united-legend-looks-back-on-the-goal-that-never-was/ Jim
  3. Could have been diverted during the Euston Rebuilding, was there not a fair number of diversions to Marylebone a that time? Jim
  4. Hi David - J3838 and J3837 were taken from the same spot, one looking north and the other looking south, it is about a mile south of the village of Dunure. You can see Culzean Castle in the background in J3837. I know the area well, I used to have a caravan at Turnberry Holiday Park, which was on the trackbeck of the old line. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=14&lat=55.3966&lon=-4.7600&layers=10&right=BingHyb Jim
  5. Always felt that they didn't quite think things through when they chose the name Chuggington, brings up visions of a town full of rugby players indulging in after match rituals (or worse)
  6. An Englishman, Irishman, Welshman, Scotsman were captured while fighting in a far-off foreign land, and the leader of the captors said, 'We're going to line you up in front of a firing squad and shoot you all in turn. But first, you each can make a final wish.' The Englishman responds, 'I'd like to hear "God Save The Queen" just one more time to remind me of the auld country, played by the London All Boys Choir. With Morris Dancers Dancing to the tune.' The Irishman replies, 'I'd like to hear "Danny Boy" just one more time to remind me of the auld country, sung in the style of Daniel O'Donnell, with Riverdance dancers skipping gaily to the tune.' The Welshman answers, 'I'd like to hear "Men Of Harlech" just one more time to remind me of the country, sung as if by the Treorchy Male Voice Choir.' The Scotsman says quickly, 'I'd like to be shot first.'
  7. Cant find any other reference to this.. https://metro.co.uk/2018/09/01/thomas-the-tank-engine-gets-multicultural-female-trains-in-equality-overhaul-7903296/ Thoughts? Mine was, yes lets jump on the politically correct bandwagon for racial and gender equality, and at the same time create several new characters that someone will made models of and we will make a lot of money as the existing brand has gone stale. One obvious contender for a new model is the SR pacific "Rebecca" Jim
  8. are these Specially trained Ecuadorian Mountian Llamas? or Venezuelan Red Llamas? Mexican Whooping Llamas? North Chilean Guanacos (Closely related to Llama) Is one of them Reg Llama of Brixton? Some of the 76000 battery Llamas from "Llama Fresh" Farms ltd near Paraguay? If you haven't a clue what I am talking about you haven't been paying enough attention to the opening credits of Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
  9. The difference between an engineer and a mathematician. An engineer and a mathematician are posed a situation, in the center of a circular room is a beautiful naked woman, the engineer and a mathematician are placed at opposite sides of the room and told that the first to get to her can have his evil way with her, but the rules are that you cover half the distance there in your first move then half the distance remaining with your second move and so on. The Mathematician immediately complains that using those rules he will never get there, the engineer responds - give me six or seven moves and I will be close enough! Jim
  10. Prestwick Airshow is this coming weekend, details here https://www.tsia.scot/ Jim
  11. There are photographs in various books and video of Duchesses hauling rakes of non-corridor coaches in and out of St Enoch and Central, also at Princes Street in Edinburgh working a stopper to Glasgow. There is one by George C O'Hara of "Princess Alice" on an Ayr to Glasgow race day relief leaving Prestwick and Sir Bill itself on St Margarets.. They were also not unknown at Buchanan Street. Jim
  12. A Saucerful Of Secrets - Pink Floyd

  14. Long Train Runnin' - The Doobie Brothers
  15. I see the Great Central Railway have been benefitting indirectly from Loan Sharks, the latest Payday Loan advert clearly features Loughborough Central and their 101 DMU, substituting for a present day commuter train. Jim
  16. Photographs of unit 035 in its original condition are as rare as hens teeth, but once again Darrel comes up trumps http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photo/scaled/6093/ http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photo/scaled/6092/ Hopefully these photos will be accessible without log in to the Scot-Rail site Jim
  17. Surely the most bizarre reason for a football match being postponed, especially in Northern Scotland https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45230853 Jim
