  1. Went to see "Stan and Ollie" in the Cinema at the weekend, nice to see the GCR and their Stanier 8F 48624 having a starring role!
  2. Who is playing Daisy Duke? Kate or Meghan??
  3. Yes that was some day, I had based myself at Blackpool and traveled up to Manchester in the morning (just a DMU), remember passing the failure on the way. Spent the morning at Longsight open day (26041 was an exhibit) before heading back to Victoria for the 14.48 Manchester Victoria to Preston behind 60095, spent the afternoon at Preston before an early evening trip to Liverpool behind 20059 and 20168 then back to Blackpool with a 31 on front (that train is not mentioned on the 6 bells website) Must scan my photographs of that day sometime. Jim
  4. Ref the top photo, that was the "North West Diesel Day" on 25th April 1992, and that train was the 08.52 Manchester Victoria - Bolton. 26040 failed at Bolton and 26001 took the train on to Preston where it terminated, the two locomotives spent the rest of the day dumped in the parcels sidings at Preston Station. Jim

  6. Add to the list of country music ingredients! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ghEFz-d6Co
  7. Hattons have it on now - price is by current standards very reasonable with £104 for the basic model. Jim
  8. Nice little locomotive! According to LNER.info site - "World War 2 saw regular appearances of J27s at Edinburgh" - rule 1 could be put in force! Jim
  9. God Gave Rock and Roll to You - Argent/Kiss (and SpongeBob and his pals!!)
  10. Todays job was fettling up the bridge then painting, I used a stiff plaster as I needed to make up a mix for the embankments to the front so two birds were killed with the one stone, The plaster worked out well and when dry I started to paint, For this process I split the boards up as the first coat was a spray all over of the Halfords khaki which I thought would work quite well as the base colour for the mortar. Once that was touch dry I roughly mixed up acrylic white and black to give a variable grey colour, this was dry brushed on to the plastic trying not to get it into the grooves as much as possible, this was then followed by a couple of brown colours to give a variable finish. The photographs with the flash show up all the flaws in gory detail so another couple of washes and perhaps some weathering powder would finish it nicely The next part of the project is the backscene, and I have to admit that although I have several ideas how this is going to come together I think I will need to mock up some card templates to see what works, one problem is the position of the actuators for the points, particularly the "king point" next to the bridge, this was configured to work with the Inglenook installed on the main layout, but it is going to be tricky to keep it accessible with any structures around it. More news soon Jim
  11. Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed the thread! Jim
  12. Always loved his catchphrase "Oh Dear, 'Ow Sad, Never Mind" I drove my kids mad with it
  13. Big shock in the Scottish Cup - Junior League Auchinleck have knocked out Ayr United! Hopefully more shocks to come.
  14. "z" is definitely used, at Glasgow Central the tracks on the bridge over the Clyde are W, X, Y and Z Jim
  15. Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & the Pips
  16. Another member of the Royal Household gives their reaction to hearing that Philip is still being allowed to drive
  17. Hi Richie - it is possible, here is how I did it, but it would only be viable for the position my signals were in (next to a tunnel/bridge) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/26270-gateside-northbridge-and-the-allenshaw-inglenook/page-2 Jim
  18. Is that the "Who let that old fart drive" issue?
  19. Thanks for your detailed explanation Brian - I have one of the "limited edition" Lima locos with the Haymarket style headcode panel already in place so that saves some work, however the "as supplied" headcode is all wrong and the numbers/letters are too small so i will open up the aperture as you have done and try and capture the original which was a bit different from the "standard" 4 digit headcode box. I have this close up crop of a photo which shows the dividing bars are quite prominent Checked on the Shawplan site and I don't see the etch for the windows so I will open them up with a needle file as you have done Thanks again Jim
  20. Imagine watching "Railway Roundabout" on those screens as the train trundles along!
  21. Thanks Martyn - the board under the bridge will be a (rather narrow) diorama depicting what used to be under the prototype at Parkhead Forge on which the Allenshaw bridge was based. This map shows that there were a number of tracks passed under the bridge, but in the period I remember it the two topmost tracks had been lifted, the next two were the main running lines (which still exist to this day) and the tracks below were still used but heavily overgrown, these were yard worked and served Parkhead forge. We will see how it turns out! Jim
  22. Hi Brian - what work did you do to the Haymarket class 40, I have an unmodified Lima one which is due a makeover so I would appreciate your guidance. Thanks Jim
