  4. Interesting debate on a Scottish Football Forum, This year the SPFL shelved the idea of the under 21 "development league" and have replaced it with the old style "Reserve League" however only six of the premier league clubs have opted to join this league (notably not Rangers and Celtic). In the case of Inverness I think their reasons for doing so are quite reasonable as the bulk of reserve fixtures are midweek daytime and with one exception (Ross County have opted to join) all the other opposition are in the central belt, so lots of travel to play in empty grounds. The other option of farming their fringe players to a Highland League club might not seem correct to some but compared to the alternative it seems like a good idea to me Jim
  5. Through The Fire And Flames - DragonForce
  6. Now if you hid a small balloon under the chicken breast and attached it discretely to a rubber bulb pump it would be really scary!
  7. What is more dangerous - an Iceberg or a U-boat? Well Titanic hit the iceberg and sank, Olympic hit a U-boat and the U-boat sank* *before the pedants arrive I am aware that strictly speaking the crew scuttled the SM U-103 after being rammed by the Olympic, but given the damage it probably wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway
  8. I wonder what Orville and Wilbur would have made of Ryanair?

  10. I wonder if they considered "de-merging"? (Caley in the League and Thistle in the Highland as a feeder club)

  13. That is not as daft as it seems. I worked for Continental Tyres until about 20 years ago and just before they closed the factory and pulled out of the UK I was working as part of a project team to make a two stage tyre manufacturing process known as Minimill. The basic carcass was constructed and then cured/moulded, this was then sent to Germany where a veneer consisting of a thin sidewall and tread was applied and then cured/moulded a second time. The logic behind this was that the tyre construction process was very labour intensive so they wanted to do this in some third world country at minimum labour costs, but they still wanted the tyre to be "Made in Germany" hence the tyre having been made in some God awful sweatshop would then get sent on a truck to Germany where the tread/sidewall would be applied, pop in the curing process and come out as a genuine new Continental Tyre, Made in Germany, only it isn't, it is a remould, as the remould process is basically the same, only what is left of the old tread is ground off before applying the new one. I don't know if they pursued this project but it is worth thinking about when you next buy a tyre.
  14. I was one of the 13,700 there that night (something else you will never see repeated), unfortunately City had lost interest in the tournament and fielded what effectively was a reserve team, still we drew with their then first team at Maine Road in the first leg
  15. Back in the 1970s we did have an excellent tournament called the Texaco Cup which was played for by English, Scottish and some Irish teams that finished mid table, unfortunately once Texaco pulled out and there was no sponsorship money the cup gradually declined. As an Airdrie supporter it provided fond memories as we beat Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Huddersfield, only losing narrowly to the then English League Champions, Brian Clough's Derby County.
  16. ...and still the SPFL pander to the Old Firm demands, the next move is likely to be the admittance into the lower leagues of "colt" (under 21) teams, this has already been tried in the Irn Bru Cup (never heard of it? Not surprised although a certain Connaghs Quay did well last year). Fans of the lower league clubs are dead against it as it can attract the nastier factions of OF fans to grounds that are not set up for segregation and surveillance but as this proposal will be sweetened by cash injections the club chairmen could be swayed to accept this.

  21. Unusual also to see the nuclear flasks with only one locomotive, two being the norm,
  22. There is a bit of a catch 22 there, Celtic (and to a lesser extend recently Rangers) continually complain that the other Scottish teams that qualify for Europe fail to progress enough to make any impact on the co-efficient by which every team from that country is judged, Celtic could win the group stage and still have to go back to the first qualifying round next year as the other clubs are so starved of cash that they cannot build a team capable of competing even at European qualifying round level. Why are they starved of cash? Because historically the Old Firm have ensured that they hoover up an unfair share of any TV and other money and also ensure that they get any of the decent talent at rock bottom prices before the smaller teams can develop them and sell good players for decent money, that and due to the total dominance of the old Firm over the last thirty four years, support for the other clubs is suppressed as frankly nobody wants to support a team that they know will finish second at best. Scottish football will continue to stagnate until Hell freezes over as there is no chance of any change to the status quo any time soon. Jim
