Yes I knew about that one, the genset had once been in the possession of my previous employer Aggreko, When they refurmished the engine and alternator Aggerko fitted an exhaust/silencer system that would have been totally different to the original, so would be a different sound. Jim

Yes, but unless you are looking directly down from above the rotation of the fan on these models is not visible, the little ventilators spinning round on the 29s could be seen from the platform, they were rather like the Flettner ventilators that appear on the roof of police vans

Not being a sound man it doesn't really matter to me, but I assume that someone has done thier research for the DCC sound fitted versions of this loco. For the life of me I cannot remember what the original MAN or Paxman engines sounded like! Also I wonder how long it will be until someone properly motorises the roof mounted ventilators on the class 29 version, these very visibly rotated on the prototype. Jim

Maroon Coach livery dates
luckymucklebackit replied to Earl Bathurst's topic in UK Prototype Questions
I have a large collection of photographs of trains at Glasgow Buchannan Street (as research for my now dismantled model) and up to now I thought that BR blue coaches were extremely rare (one example of one coach) and absolutely zero for mark II, I always felt a little guilty running my maroon Bachmann MkII into the station, but there you go! Thansk for posting Edit - just to add, my last sighting of maroon coaching stock was at Llandudno Junction in August 1972, a relief to the Irish Mail came off the Holyhead line behind a Peak and it really stuck in my memory that it was mostly maroon Jim -
Do HST sets require turning?

When the West Coast Postal still ran, the full train was sent from Glasgow for a quick run round the Hamilton Circle, even after the lineside pickup was stopped. Jim -

Do HST sets require turning?

Possible, but I think that the route that they use also provides drivers with diversionary route familiarisation Jim -
Maroon Coach livery dates

This has been discussed at length in the past, generally I refer to https://www.bloodandcustard.org/ for dates, on this site try https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/146921-maroon-mk1’s/ and https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/67660-the-last-mk1-rake-in-br-maroon-in-the-1970s/ -
Do HST sets require turning?

There is an evening Pendolino working from Euston to Edinburgh that then runs ECS to Polmadie for servicing, the ECS run goes via Shotts, Mossend East, Mossend South and Motherwell to reach Braidhurst Loop, where it reverses and runs via Mossend South and Mossend West junctions to reach Glasgow Central before running out to Polmadie, all this to ensure that the FIrst Class remains a tthe London end! I also believe that there are ECML HST diversions via Carlisle that run via Gateshead, Newcastle (wrong direction to normal), Carlisle, Carstairs then if going on to Aberdeen run via the Edinburgh "Sub" to stay correctly formed, did that route behind a Deltic once Jim -

Not the Glasgow Bypass, that particular stretch of road from Maryville to Canderside Toll just south of Hamilton was effectively the Hamilton, Bothwell and Uddingston bypass, it was then extended south to Lesmahagow in 1982, then the big projects linked it up to the rest of the motorway system -

Once read a plauable theory that they were not aliens but that in the future humans will invent the capability to time travel back in history, but they will not be permitted to interact with the population of that time as it would cause the inevitable paradox. This would explain the large number of sightings in the 50s and 60s, as wealthy railway enthusiasts travel back to witness the last days of steam and lovely green diesels

Great photographs, the one of the class 91 in platform 11 made me think that it is very rare to see a London train in that side of the station any more, a check of the current timetable reveals that the only WCML passenger departure from that platform is the evening sleeper. There is one class 390 on an ECS from Edinburgh to Polmadie CS that berths in platform 9 for a short while around 10:30 in the evening. Every other 390 departure uses 1 and 2. Jim
