There was an office prank that did the rounds a while back whereby you would leave a note on a gullible colleagues desk telling them that they had a missed call and could they call back on 0131 334 9171 and ask for a Mr C. Lyons. 0131 334 9171 is the number for Edinburgh Zoo

Coulple from me, small size due to being on my old "dial-up" website, first is 44008 at Glasgow Works Open Day on Saturday 27th June 1981, it had come up north in the consist of a freight, which i saw from a distance at Holyton the week before, it was on it's way to Aviemore which became it's home for a while. Second one is 97413 "Amethyst" (ex 45066) at Mossend awaiting its last trip to MC Metals at Springburn, August 1988 Jim -

I would be a bit careful about pressing the "1", certain scams use that method to connect you to a premium rate call which can end up costing you a few bob Jim -

Got one on my works mobile yesterday that made me laugh. It sounded like the guy that did the "mine is the last voice you will ever here" on "Two Tribes" and abruptly told me that I had been accused of Tax Fraud and if I didn;t immediately press "1" on my phone the prosecution would proceed and I could expect arrest within 24 hours. I laughed, hung up and have not heard anything from the taxman or police (surprisingly) jim -

Regular travellers know where and where not to sit as there was considerable variation in ride between coaches. The seats to avoid were those towards the rear of the front coach, immediately above the bogie, where it could get very lively. I always preferred to sit in the MBSO which had much better ride characteristics. Regarding 303002, it was the first unit to be scrapped after running away at Neilston, this unit and 303074 (Gilmour Street Crash) were photographed at Bellahouston C.S. and can be seen here http://www.eastbank.org.uk/images/Units/UK3210.jpg. Units were not supposed to be parked off the juice in the Bay Platfor at Airdrie for the same reason, there having been a couple of runaways in steam days. Jim

035 was the guinea pig unit for control systems and for a couple of door systems, It was classified 303/2 and the Dean doorgear was removed in 1971. Unit No.091 was originally earmarked to be fitted with thyristor equipment eventually fitted to 035. The type of sliding doors with which unit No.035 was uniquely fitted (hence its Type AM3/2 classification) was originally to be applied to 50 or 60 units, but the plan was abandoned because of manufacturing difficulties. These air-operated doors were flush with the coach body when closed, and when opened moved outward and slid along the coach exterior; in service the equipment suffered a failure rate 150 per cent worse than that of the standard door gear on the other units. The unit remained essentially non-standard and was put into storage in 1981. The MBS was subsequently scrapped but the TS and BTS were later used in reformed 303028. Edit - regarding 9 car units, there was a regular ECS from AIrdrie to Bridgeton late evening that ran as a 9 car set. Jim

I am sure I read somewhere that this applied to the old four track bridge which towards the end of it's life became a bit dodgy. SInce the main WCML platforms, P! and P2 were only accessable from this bridge before it was dismantled it would make sense. But why on earth would a Duchess require a Pilot? Jim -
I wonder if it is just a coincidence that this site in the New Forest is just down the road from "the Fighting Cocks" pub
