  1. Derek Cross made a comment in one of his books, "Ayr Shed didn't like North British Injuns" Think that might have extended to diesels as well Jim
  2. Proof here https://www.flickr.com/photos/andy_hoare/6540160797 Jim
  3. If that was a model the cry "unprototypical application of ballast" would go up, too much ballast, its too clean looking. Looks like one of those layouts where they experimented with kitty litter and it didn't go well JIm
  4. The Ballad of Dwight Fry - Alice Cooper
  5. I think John Laurie would sum up the current situation with his usual pessimism.
  6. Whats the difference between Las Vegas and Wuhan? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... Jim
  7. And Eastenders (Well for a while), read the comments on the BBC news website, nearly everyone is pleased
  8. If I remember correctly the snow fell on the Sunday, one of the few times I have seen snow during Model Rail Scotland. Jim
  9. Interesting story about the line here http://www.hunmanby.com/harrycrash.html Edit - and more here including full diagram https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/103125-photos-of-east-yorkshire-railways/page/3/ Jim
  10. At least Ayr had a couple of big attractions in Duchess of Sutherland and Martello, Filey didn't get a loco. Photo from the Eastbank MRC site There is still a big Holiday Park at Ayr, but it is a wild place during the summer, the "SUN £9.50 Holiday" offer combined with large quantities of alcohol makes it a place to avoid Jim
  11. Nah! I'm the Airdrie supporter on here, must be a Falkirk or Montrose fan, tending to the former, simply as there are more of them
  12. Or possibly D7612. The first time I went to Fort William in the summer of 1966 D7612 hauled the train from Glasgow to Fort WIlliam, remember it vividly and being very surprised as I thought everything was BRCW or NBL hauled at that time
  13. An awkward site to redevelop in its present form, hemmed in by the railway on two sides and the football park on the other. The local football club have been trying to move to a new stadium for years, it that happened the site would probably be given over to housing. Falkland yard is another big desolate area now, track still in place and still owned by EWS but sees only the odd isolated working, even the Colas rail service to Prestwick runs round in the station rather than the yard as EWS would probably charge them for that. Jim
  14. There is a "Burma Road" at Shields Junction in Glasgow. The one that used to get me wondering when I was young was "Doncaser Decoy", was this a yard built to confuse WW2 bombers?? Thanks to the Internet I now know the name was derived from the Duck Decoy that was created there many years before. However to confuse things there was a WW2 bombing decoy site at Tickhill. It was built as part of the 'A-series' of army decoys to deflect enemy bombing from military installations in Doncaster. The site also operated as part of the 'C-series' of civil decoys to protect Doncaster railway sidings. This was a 'QL' decoy, which displayed simulated marshalling yard lights to reconstruct the sidings at Doncaster during a poor blackout. The site is referenced as being in use between 1941 and 1943. By the 1980s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survives. Tickhill was also the location of a 'Permanent Starfish' site for Doncaster. A further civil decoy for Doncaster was located at Armthorpe. So Decoy had a Decoy!! Jim
  15. A very interesting thread. I am assuming that the Sprung points at the concourse end of the platform roads mentioned in the article quoted by Market65 must have been changed to hand worked points at some time, as there is levers to be seen in a couple of the photos above. I would imagine that this would have been done when DMUs started appearing, or there would have been some interesting situations arising if the front coach passed the points! Jim
  16. A couple of games for you to play while you are self isolating
  17. I remember reading an amusing story about a pet emu that got loose and was running loose on a london railway line, there was total confustion when it was reported to control as they were not sure if it was a emu (bird) or an EMU, you can just imagine the conversation! Jim
  18. In case you haven't seen it yet, this clip is going viral as it sums up the governments response to the current crisis
