I went to the K&WVR on a SRPS railtour back in August 1993 and haulage over the branch was scheduled for double headed Jinty” 0-6-0T No. 47279 and 78022, however 78022 was a failure and haulage up the branch was 47279 double headed with D5209, 47279 did the return alone. Main line motive power that day was 47715 in Network SE livery Jim -

Waste from Shale Oil mining was as bad, as BR found out to their cost when the embankment between Winchburgh Tunnel and The Almond Valley Viaduct which had been buit using wast shale went on fire. The Shale bings were extremely dangerous places as the fire could burn underground leaving a crust on top that would collapse when someone walked over, sending them down into a void where the shale would be red hot, resulting in death or severe burns. Was watching "Train Truckers" last night and they were collecting "Britannia" from Crewe, what was very visible next to it - this!! Had me scrambling onto the net to see if this was indeed a project, but it would appear that some wag had applied these numbers as a bit of a joke, D9016 will remain D9016! Jim

I Googled up "The Vital Spark" to compare the boat used on the TV series and it appears that there were two disctinctly different boats used. One was used in the original series, the other in the later remake. Spot the difference between the two!! So it appears that the funnel could be ahead of the bridge, or behind the bridge! Jim
