  3. Did 5380 run in Scotland in that livery? It was transferred from the LMR in November 1969. Don't think I have seen a photo of it north of the border in that livery. No doubt someone will have one! Jim
  4. The Urban Dictionary has various meanings for "paddle", and I would not like to try it with either a Gnu or a Wildebeeste! (Or any other animal name that graced one of Thompson B1s) JIm

  11. This location just to the West of Piershill https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=18&lat=55.95803&lon=-3.15858&layers=170&right=BingHyb Looks about right, the signal posts are in the correct location, the photograph would have been taken from Marionville Road looking towards Piershill Edit - later view here on RailScot https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/46/224/ And the SIgnal Diagram https://signalbox.org/~SBdiagram.php?id= 938 the bracket without the signal would have been for the Lochend South to Lochend North curve (thence on to Leith Central) closes on 1st May 1972 Jim
  12. Thanks to everyone that responded, looks like the sealing up of the end doors would have been a good reason, with the Headcode box being added as it was " the done thing" at that time being the added feature Cheers Jim
  13. Following on from that one... Man has three daughters and their suitors come around to to take them out... First lad, "my name's Vance, I'm here for Nance, to take her to a dance, any chance?" Man thinks, nice boy, OK. Second boy, "my name's Joe, I'm here for Flo, to take her to a show, can she go?" Man again thinks, nice boy, Ok Third boy "my name's Tucker", which is as far as he got before the man slammed the door Jim
  14. OK after all of these jokes that need a working knowledge of Yorkshire accents, here is one that would definitely only be understood by residents of Glasgow! Wifie 1 - looking in the Window of a Bakers in downtown Govan: "Is that a cream slice in the windae or a Meringue?" Wifie 2: "Naw yer right enough" Jim
  15. Was the addition of a runner wagon unique to class 03s? There were a number of locations in Scotland where class 06s ventured out onto a track circuited main line, but I have never seen one of them with a runner wagon. Jim
