  4. Remember Derek Cross making a comment in on of the captions in a book that GSWR men didn't like LNER engines in any form, any that appeared in the area were dispatched back as soon as possible. There are photos of B1s at Ayr but I doubt if they made it to the Port Line JIm
  5. Could this be your cat trying to explain the paradox of quantum superposition, (as viewed by the cat) JIm
  6. Just to bring this thread up to date, the previously mentioned Scottish Oils depot at Riccarton has been closed, although when I was last round that way the track is still in position. A train bound for this terminal was involved in the Stewarton Derailment Accident Report Also mentioned was the Prestwick terminal which I am pleased to report had had an equipment upgrade and looks to have a secure future, but it is not the original terminal for the airport. The original basic facility was to the South of the airport on the Glenburn Branch and Railscot has a few good photographs of trains at the terminal. https://www.railscot.co.uk/companies/M/Monkton_and_Annbank_Branch_Glasgow_and_South_Western_Railway/ You would be hard pushed to find the terminal today as the branch has been all but obliterated, however I was down that way recently and the road bridge to the rear of the photograph of the two class 25s still exists. It s the bridge shown on this map https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=55.50361&lon=-4.60017&layers=170&right=BingSat and is hidden in the trees in the Bing Satellite shot. Not sure it the trains were propelled out of the branch after unloading or if a loop was retained at the old Glenburn Colliery side for running round, of the 4 photographs three are unloading with the loco to the east of the terminal, only the 25s are to the west. Jim
  7. Stayed there in July 1992, what a holiday that was, went to Southport first, then up over the "Cat and Fiddle" road to Buxton, down to Peak Rail at Matlock then Doncaster for the Works Open Day, last leg was up to the Sidings for a few nights and I found it great with excellent food. Stayed in that very compartment shown in the photo. Go.t an absolute wad of photographs that I must scan someday. Jim
  8. In Paul Simon's garden however Rosemary comes between the two ( and after Parsley)
  9. 27s on the Kyle line were rare, this is a beauty shared from Facebook with permission from photographer Alan Conway. 26 034 running round at Kyle of Lochalsh on 9th September 1980 having arrived with 27 109 on the first train of the day from Dingwall. Note that the track beyond the release crossover only allows one loco at a time.
  10. after the world cup, Andy Cameron still sang this song as part of his act in the clubs, but he changed the words to "We've All Been Conned by Ally's Army" Jim
  11. If we are compiling a list of songs to slit your wrists to I would nominate JIm Morrison
  12. I must be a true railway enthusiast, as soon as I read that I thought "D1000" Jim
  13. Where The Streets Have No Name - U2
  14. Agree you can probably pick up at 10 ft van second hand, but most sites are laid out with pitches for 12 ft vans and most would not let you site the older vans on their site. I don't think any of the major manufacturers make 10 footers any more. Jim
  15. The days of the 10ft wide Static Caravan are long gone, 12ft has been the standard for many years now Jim
  16. Another WHL class 21, this came up on Facebook and is posted here with permission of the photographer Bob Faulkner. Bob recorded that the 21 in the background was D6135 at Fort William on August 2nd 1966 Jim
  17. Also slow to catch up this week but amazed that you took this photo! You must have had a bit of a safari to find it. This was part of my old stamping ground when I was young. took these views of the same location showing the shunter that was used to move the wagons between the works and the exchange sidings. Jim
  18. Nobody out yesterday for the mega length Scotrail HST? Three additional Mk3s hitched a lift in a refurbished unit heading ECS from Doncaster to Edinburgh Jim
