  1. I have finished off a cutting blank/brick paper for a Glasgow Tenement. This will become a building which will sit opposite Gateside Buchanan Street Station as a scenic break, in place of the current area of scrub. In the absence of a suitable card kit or even a currently available brick paper, the building is based on an actual scale drawing of a Glasgow Tenement, with the stonework pattern copied from Streetview and the brick colours sampled from the same source, although I then washed the colours through an editor to darken the brick up as 99% of modern tenements have been sand blasted to remove the years of soot and dirt and they now look distinctly "redder" than the 1960s period in which the layout is based. One thing that I have discovered during my research is that there is no such thing as a "standard" Glasgow Tenement, there are many variations in window layout, sandstone colour and general finishing features so this is once again a bit of a compromise I then added features like the old shop sign and doors harvested from photographs on "Urban Glasgow" and "Hidden Glasgow". Lot of work to do as I want to try and capture a run-down "distressed" building with a grotty Glasgow Pub typical of the period. The windows that are surrounded by a rather neutral beige will have bay windows added in front which will have their own stonework, the grey areas will have ledges and cornices added as overlays . But it appears that someone actually has that name!!1 https://www.linkedin.com/pub/juan-kerr/53/126/a35 There is also a link on that page to another cracking name https://www.linkedin.com/pub/poo-poo-pong/58/201/aab?trk=pub-pbmap Jim
  9. Add to the above, having blown up the picture the line clearly curves to the right beyond the second signalbox, possibly crossing a bridge or viaduct before entering a cutting close to the church spire on the horizon. Jim
  10. Thanks for that link Dave - they had the exact octagonal chimney pots that I have been looking for a long time to top out Northbridge Station Building Jim
  11. Thought for a moment that this could have been somewhere on the North Wales Coast, as looking at the shadows cast by the old station building the sun is fairly high in the sky (so would have been in the south) so therefore the photograph would have been taken looking west. Unfortunately I couldn't find a likely location Jim
  12. Looks like just to the South of Warrington, I would agree with this, just north of the bridges over the Manchester Ship Canal. Jim

  14. SLEEPING WITH MICK: Four guys were on a bike tour. No one wanted to room with Mick, because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Mick and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. They said, "Man, what happened to you? He said, "Mick snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night." The next night it was a different guy's turn. In the morning, same thing, hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot. They said, "Man, what happened to you? You look awful! He said, 'Man, that Mick shakes the roof with his snoring. I watched him all night." The third night was Bill's turn. He was a tanned, older biker, a man's man... The next morning he came to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. "Good morning!" he said. They couldn't believe it. They said, "Man, what happened?" He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Mick into bed, patted him on the behind, and kissed him good night on the lips...... Mick sat up and watched me all night." Jim

  17. Hi all - I went on the Glasgow Central tour this afternoon and I was not disappointed, The tour takes you down into the maze of subterranean passages below the station including the fabled "lost platform". The stairs down to this old platform were only competed two weeks ago adding this feature to the tour. Only one of the two island platforms was returned to use when the line was reopened in the 1970s, the other was sealed off behind a partition wall, and part was lost to the foundations of a new commercial development This is the view from the bottom of the stairs Then on down to the trackbed, the flash on my camera was just not up to throwing enough light, with the naked eye you could see an eastbound train leaving the working platform in the background The next part of the tour caught me by surprise, to the north of the old track formation there is another chamber, described by the guide as the "ladies waiting room", fellow urban explorers think this was a means of getting parcels down to the low level station The tour guide was brilliant, he has some very ambitious plans to relay track and get a couple of old replica coaches parked next to the platform, this would then be augmented by photographic exhibitions. All and all an enjoyable day Jim
