  1. Agree with the above, the initial workings of these locomotives were on the Euston - Perth services, and these had a single loco. Many of the initial deliveries did not have multiple working jumpers fited as new. Jim
  2. Will be looking for that book at the Glasgow show, would be surprised if Douglas Blades doesn't have a stock for sale! JIm
  3. Hi Martyn - don't know if you were watching TV last night but there was a programme on BBC4 about the Puffers featuring Crinan, It could well be on iplayer Jim
  4. Be honest Andrew - when have you actually heard a politician give a straight answer to a question! Jim
  5. I asked the question on the Scot-Rail group and they have come up trumps, these wagons were seen at Montrose in 1984. Hope these links work. http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photo/scaled/20409/ http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/photo/scaled/20410/ JIm
  6. Sadly the Lostock Hall Website is no longer available, following the links leads you to an advert for running shoes Jim
  7. Shields Depot this afternoon Snatched photo from a passing train, one of the preserved Deltics in for a spot of tyre turning probably. Livery comparison, Strathclyde Red was not too different to the Greater Manchester Livery, unrefurbished example returned to Scotland, could have been 048 later to be returned to Caley Blue. 307130 round the back of Shields Depot in January 1991. I have seen photographs of 307117 at Edinburgh so I know it got out and about, not sure if 307130 ever traveled further afield in Scotland, 307130 later found work on the Doncaster to Leeds line 307117 is the odd one out among the usual Scottish Classes, 303s, 320s, and 318s with a green and cream Mk2 thrown in for good measure, This is the only 307 I have seen other photographs of in Scotland, as it sat in Edinburgh Waverley for a while. The Unit had black window surrounds at one end only. Another loco into the depot for tyre turning, 37404 "Ben Cruachen" Jim
  8. I would say that your suggestion is highly plausible, The entire steel industry went on strike on 2 January 1980 and stayed out for over three months, I worked for British Steel but luckily I was at university at the time. The PTAs look white inside suggesting lime traffic as the PTAs were used for lime traffic in normal service. Any idea of the date of the photograph? Jim
  9. You couldn't make this up http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-42917101 Jim
  10. might need a new thread, as my photos are from 1981 to 1995, what do we think? Jim
  11. OK here are a few to start things off, I was never good at note taking and I cannot lay my hands on the notebooks I have so descriptions and sketchy, especially dates. This was Glasgow Works open day on 27th June 1981 and this is one of the two class 314 coaches involved in the accident on the 5th of June 1980 at Hyndland, not sure if it is 314203 or 314215 314 at Partick Interchange on an eastbound service 320301 has arrived at Springburn Station from Milngavie. and passengers transfer to 156442 for Cumbernauld shortly before the Cowlairs Chord was opened. 37409 "Loch Awe" passes through Springburn on an unidentified empty stock working, the coaches look to be Provincial Livery as the upper blue looks too light for Scotrail. 26006 heads south through Springburn on a PW working the new signals are in place ready for the Cowlairs Chord If these are of interest I will keep on posting. Jim
  12. Link to a short thread on the old RMweb http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=29954 And video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mXLuZQtCMc Jim
  13. Freezers fist law of model railways - "Every Modeler will have twice as many locomotives as he needs, and half as many as he wants" Jim
  14. Forgot to add Gary Lineker to my list, not because of his presenting style, but because nobody should be paid close on £2m to present a TV program, it is obscene. Jim
  15. Smashing Detail Martyn, couple of the figures look as though they are straight out of the knitting pattern covers of the day, maybe there was a shoot on Jim
  16. There was a Peak hauled service that came in about 15:00 as the 1S68 from Nottingham, this then left as the 1E31 to Leeds at 16:10, used platform 10 or 11 also behind a Peak. used to be the highlight of a Saturday afternoon spotting. Jim
  17. Surely an advert for Hastings Direct!
  18. Are we still on Scottish water crossings? Olton Hall with class 37 returning from filming duties crossing the River Leven in Dumbarton. Keep it Scottish Jim
  19. That Mazak rot gets everywhere! Dug out the scanner last night and started the process, will get the first batch uploaded to Flickr tonight hopefully JIm
  20. There were still a lot of pre-nationalization vans about in 1963, for example the stock that was involved in the Great Train Robbery was exclusively LMS despite being the premier WCML postal. I think the offset position of the LMS Gangways would have been something to do with that set being retained intact. Jim
  21. That photo brought back memories, I used to work for Uniroyal (later Continental) at Newbridge near Edinburgh, that poster was splashed up at various locations around the factory with the obligatory smart comments added by the workforce! Jim
  22. Just lets hope that the authorities don't celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the End of BR steam with a 50th Anniversary re-establishment of the steam ban, willing to bet that there are some who would gladly impose it. JIm
  23. Female - Rosie's Mum (AKA Lorraine Kelly) Male - Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross, I would have jailed the two of them for that tasteless prank call stunt to Andrew Sachs Jim
