  4. According to Wikipedia, Thompson was well down the list of candidates, the LNER did approach the Southern to see if they could have Bulleid and were given permission to talk to him but he declined the post, J.F. Harrison, was also considered but at 42 years old, was considered too young to take the post. The LNER board then turned to Arthur Peppercorn for the CME role, but Thompson held seniority and influence amongst other LNER officials and used this political experience to sidestep Peppercorn and take the title of CME. 6. From 1988 until 1991 the loco was based at Motherwell Depot as part of the Class 37 Hunterston Pool (FMGM) with each of the locomotives being named after a British Steel Corporation facility in Central Scotland with the exception of 37320 which was named "Shap Fell". 37313 never received a name, rumour was that it was due to be named "Calder" but that works (in Coatbridge) closed around the time the locos were being named. Imperial was named after the Tube finishing plant in Airdrie, 37310 (37152) B.S.C. Ravenscraig 37311 (37156) B.S.C. 7. Hi Mike - My advice is when you are building a large ambitious plan such as you are proposing is to break it down into several smaller self contained projects than can be completed in a reasonable time, most people (myself included) underestimate the amount of time it takes to build a large layout, not to mention the costs, timber to build the boards, track, electrics and scenic materials all add up. I had a house with a large loft about thirty years ago and set about planning to fill it. i did not have a plan how each stage was going to be completed and eventually ran out of cash and enthusiasm, result the layout never was finished and was eventually abandoned in favour of a smaller layout in the spare room. That said, best of luck, I do like layouts with lots of operating potential, you can't beat playing trains after all! Jim

  12. The minimum alcahol unit price of 50p comes into force in Scotland on the 1st of May, it is said that is will target binge drinking and is aimed at the cheap high strength ciders and beers sold through off licences. Personally I prefer quality bottled beers and whisky which already cost more than 50p per unit so I will not be affected. However there is one brand of wine which in Scotland in particular is synonymous with drunkenness and anti-social behavior, that is the famous Buckfast Tonic Wine, yet will not be affected by this minimum unit cost as a bottle currently sells at around £7.50 a bottle and contains 11.5 units of alcohol. It is thought that it is the mixture of alcohol and caffeine in this brew that makes it potent. Jim

  15. Thanks Legend - If you want to have a go making one for yourself I have the Pdf file for the front of the building, it is not subject to any copyright as the stone pattern was not available from any of the propitiatory sources, it was pieced together from a google streetview shot of a tenement - and yes you are spot on, it was one in Yoker Ferry Road, however that one had been cleaned so I had to darken the stone back to 1960 grime using photo editing software then matt varnish and weathering powders.
