  1. I worked for Aggreko for seven years without realising they were in the Diesel loco preservation business! They currently use the Cummins QSK19 for some of their generator sets, same as used on Vomiters. Jim
  2. Former Station at Glasgow Central Low Level (at the time of the photograph) subsequently reopened Next Another station that has been reopened Jim
  3. I heard that in order to maintain their initials but more reflect their actual status they will now be known as the United Kingdom Insignificant Party
  4. The Stirling Single at Shildon, Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the two smaller hooks and chains were on the bufferbeam? Jim
  5. The King will Come - Wishbone Ash
  6. Hi Alain - This is a really nice layout and I love your class 37s, remember them when they were converted from the standard tractors. If you don't mind some constructive criticism, to get the true Glasgow feeling the buildings need bit of weathering, even in the 1980s Glasgow was still distinctly soot stained, and the pub is very "English" looking, unlike anything you would see in the Glasgow Suburbs where pubs were in general mean looking drinking dens. Reference was made to Urban Glasgow towards the start of the thread, you can get photographs to make some good backscenes from that site, that is where I sourced mine. Keep up the good work Cheers Jim
  7. Have always thought that the "This page intentionally blank" thing was weird - so I put it into my signature!
  8. Scottish banknotes once saved me money! On my first visit to Amsterdam I had bought Guilders before I left (shows you how long ago that was!), but these were soon spent and I needed to change some more money, unfortunately I only had Scottish banknotes and when I attempted to change them at the little currency shops they refused to accept them. Taking the bull by the horns I walked into a major bank and explained my problem, the teller replied "no problem, I can exchange these - in fact you will get a much better rate of exchange and no fees here, so they have saved you a bit of money!" Jim
  9. Quite happy, I left my wallet in my trouser pocket and it went in the wash, unlike paper notes they came out perfectly. My wife however is on a charge of money laundering. Jim
  10. Aberfeldy Station forecourt, with the newsagent on the left Edit - the building on the extreme right is still in existence, but a road runs through where the station building stood. Jim
  11. The phenomenal quantities of pre-orders for the J36 will have the bagpipes playing loudly in the Hornby design office and a Caledonian 439 class 0-4-4 will be announced! JIm
  12. The Flicker Link in post 5 isn't working, the owner of this photo allows sharing so I don't suppose he will mind me posting 13.12.2016 (III); Even voorstellen, RRF561-03 by Chris Westerduin, on Flickr
  13. There used to be a prank that did the rounds at a company near Edinburgh that I worked for, the victim would come back to his desk to find a note left: "Can you please call Mr C. Lyons on 0131 334 9171 urgently". 0131 334 9171 is the number for Edinburgh Zoo, they must be sick of getting these calls! Jim
  14. From the passenger seat of a hire car somewhere in Dijon Jim
  15. I read Platform Souls', by Nicholas Whittaker quite recently, a bit of a bittersweet read. It was on sale in "the works" for a bargain £1.50 for a while but it is out of stock now. Edit to say - I also started my travels from the outskirts of Glasgow down to Crewe, Carlisle and York at the tender age of 14, my parents were OK with it as long as there were at least two of us and that we stayed together, I can also report that I never encountered any anxiety about nipping around the back streets of towns we had never been in before. Jim
