  1. Becoming increasingly annoyed at the nasty little diva Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast, always ready with a barbed comment for her co-presenters but is so high and mighty that she cannot take a jibe at herself. Attracts an obscene salary of between £150,000 and £199,999. Interestingly her married name is Haggar, so lets just drop one "g" and call her Hagar the Horrible. Jim
  2. Needs a Southern Railway 6-PAN unit
  3. How do you tell if someone is a Driving Instructor, in the Summertime - His left arm is the only one that is sun tanned (One of many witty observations from "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" by David Nobbs)
  4. The condition of the moulds producing those kits must be very poor as well, I bought a Water Tank Kit recently and the amount of flash was awful (more plastic for the oceans) and more frustrating the amount of warping of the main tank components was terrible. Jim
  5. The military connection does seem to make sense. I remember doing a Freedom of Scotland run back in 1978 which started with a run up the West Highland on the 06:00 from Queen Street which conveyed the overnight sleepers and seating coaches from London, I was surprised to find the train packed, mainly with young men. The reason they were there was revealed at Helensburgh Upper, where they all left the train to head for the Faslane Submarine base, presumable heading back after leave. Thanks for the replies so far! Jim
  6. Hi All - while browsing through the 1964-1965 Scottish Region Passenger Train Marshalling Book as posted on line by Robert Carroll I came across the very interesting 5:15pm (SX) Colchester to Glasgow Queen Street, which returned south at 10:00PM from Queen Street to Colchester. What an interesting train, it was formed of three passenger vehicles and an assortment of parcels vans, with fish vans attached to the southbound service at Edinburgh! I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the origin of this service, when it ceased to run and what haulage it would have in the 1960s, I was planning an overnight parcels/seated passenger service for my layout and lo and behold here is a prototype! Thanks Jim
  7. Pity the RAF Recovery Set is not among this range, these are good vehicles that can be adapted for a layout
  8. But there is a wee problem there - the wife likes the tennis unfortunately so the option to turn over it fraught with danger

  11. https://www.funimag.com/funimag11/scarbo05.htm Corner of Royal Albert Drive and the Peasholm Gap, Google Streetview show that their is nothing left of it. I remember visiting as a child and thinking that this lift was the most pointless, as it was a very short climb. Jim
  12. Well FIAT stands for Fix it again Tony

  14. Hi - Thanks Martyn - The street ahead and the row of tenements are just a home made backscene, the street is the Royal Mile photographed looking East from just about outside the Museum of Childhood - I stood for ages waiting for the traffic to clear so that it would look a bit older, the row of tenements was a photograph of one block found on an Edinburgh Estate Agents site which was duplicated and flipped to exetnd the row then photoshopped to make the duplicated block look slightly different. By pure luck after a bit of playing about with the scaling the two went together perfectly, must admit I have been pleased with the effect myself - this is a small scale jpeg of the montage which shows some of the detail, I have the full scale backscenes saved if anyone is wanting an Edinburgh view Cheers Jim
  15. Hi all, just getting back to normal now after going through a cataract operation on my left eye, so back in the loft where spring cleaning and patching have been the order of the day. There were a couple of areas where I made minor improvements as I didn't feel it was looking great. One the Northbridge Road Bridge, I had used the old Airfix/Dapol platform lamps but these are not really appropriate so I went on line and bought some decent ones that don't look a million miles from those that used to be seen in Edinburgh The real ones are a bit more ornate, but short of getting a fret these will have to do. The wires are not connected yet, that is a job for the future. Up at the Top end of the layout, a chance photo showed the tunnel into Gateside was a disgrace (out of sight behind the roof beam = out of mind) This has now been rectified with an overlay fabricated to look a bit more presentable On the motive power front, I have a Lima Metro Cammel DMU which superficially looks great but runs like a dog, so this has been made a Dummy two car set which will run either as a three car set with the parcels unit providing traction as shown here, or will pair up with the Bachman Cravens unit both of which are excellent runners That's all for tonight Cheers Jim
  16. As someone who uses a hire car frequently I was pleased to get an upgrade to a BMW 1 series recently. I have to say that it was noticeable that the usual road courtesy that I enjoy when driving my own or other less stigmatized vehicles was absent, the attitude of "Sod you and your BMW" seemed to prevail. Jim
  17. Hmmm! Ayr (1 loco depot, large freight yard etc), or Dunoon (totally boring town with no railway connection whatsoever) tough call!!
  18. J36 delivery looks to be slipping, email from Hattons now giving the delivery date as October. So hopefully here for my birthday! Jim
  19. Did you ever whistle "Colonel Bogey" when he was about?
  20. Best Wishes Dave - as someone who just had an eye op last week I know how daunting any threat to your health and well being can be. Get well soon. Jim

  22. I once heard Rangers and Celtic described as the elephant in Scottish football's living room, squashing everyone else, whichever way they turn. The danger now, is that after thirty four years of utter dominance in winning the league (despite Rangers financial collapse and rebuilding) the two clubs are slowly suffocating the life out of the other clubs and their fans and it is very clear that no one else can ever hope to challenge them again for the top honour. Indeed the Scottish Premier League was created in 1975 to make the League more competitive, but on only four occasions in the 1980s was the league won by anyone outwith the Old Firm (only 19 times ever in the history of the game) Ideally they should be allowed to play in the Premiership, but I can understand why they are not wanted thanks to their historical baggage, equally, despite a huge following they have no chance in playing in any European Elite league if it was ever formed. Life will go on as it has done for years past, it won't get better and I hate it. Jim
