  1. My favourite part of your photo posts, Dave. Spot the ex-SR PMVs et al... As usual, many thanks for reminding us of the railway of years past.
  2. I dunno, I keep wanting an extra set of wheels under the cab so it doesn't keel over backwards...
  3. Wouldn't it have been quicker to park up and walk across the board crossing? Or had he had his full share of Krispy Kreme that day?
  4. Well, he didn't seem to care he nudged the blue car behind him when he was shuffling his car into parking position... I wonder if the black pickup ever found a space? He seemed to be going round the block a few times...
  5. If it's our parallel universe then you could always have a loop under a hill - the loco would enter the tunnel and then exit running in the opposite direction with no reversing... Would have to watch the minimum radii though...
  6. They're using these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Royal-mail-Fake-tracked-self-adhesive-labels-20-EXTRA-FREE-LABELS/162551994847?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170907081254%26meid%3D7eab853a18bd4d5694548a8f7ec18d0e%26pid%3D100281%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D12%26&_trksid=p2045573.c100281.m3567 Edit - in view of official, and correct, response from the company concerned...
  7. C14400 - must have been a very quiet day - the crossover is still on 'reverse'...
  8. While still in the 'courting' stage of our relationship, one Sunday afternoon with no idea of what to do I suggested to my now-wife that we visit Clevedon Court (just outside the town on the Bristol Road). She said that she had never been to it, despite being born in the town 22 years previously and going past it twice a day on the bus to work...
  9. Am I the only one who thinks that the two-tone Green with small panels was a totally suitable livery for the Brush Type 4s? Happy New Year to you Dave, thanks for all your postings in the past year. HNY to everyone else, too... EDIT: I see no coal trains, though...
  10. You didn't notice the fishermans' waders and stilts in the car in previous shots?
  11. Until I clocked the headboard, I thought it was a FootEx...
  12. ...and the original passenger vehicles on the WC&PR... https://www.hfstephens-museum.org.uk/images/stories/topics/wcp_carriages/no2.jpg
  13. The new wet behind the ears Accountant at a previous job of mine encountered the situation where data transfers from certain offices were being rejected by the system for formatting and value inaccuracies. Instead of letting us analyse where the problem was and come up with recommendations for a solution, he insisted that the checks on the incoming data were removed from the interface program. We refused, he took it up his reporting chain and it came back down mine. I put my case to the Financial Director that his shareholders (at least) wouldn't like the situation where he was reporting erroneous P&L figures and the new Accountant was advised to let the IT Department do its job.
  14. From my observations on travel into Bristol from the South West (B3130/A370), there's a large concrete viaduct at Ashton Gate which overshadows the Level Crossing into the Industrial Park, a couple of concrete troughs through where the old PW depot was, leading to the old swing bridge over the New Cut, which has been refurbished. It will be interesting to see if the Bristol Metro-whatever has the same issues as the Cambridge on did/does... A couple of images culled from local press... Ashton Gate - the railway line is what's left of the Portishead branch line: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/travelwest/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/2.-Winterstoke-Road.jpg New Cut - the old swing bridge over the River Avon, the PW dept was in the area below the guided busway and to the right of the Cumberland Basin road: http://brightcove04.o.brightcove.com/4221396001/4221396001_5415230889001_5415200511001-vs.jpg?pubId=4221396001&videoId=5415200511001 To the left of the swing bridge in the second image was the run-round loop at the end of the Bristol Harbour Railway, which has obviously been cut back at this point. According to a BBC report dated 20/06/17, FirstBus is the assigned operator for the Metro bus service.
  15. ...and going the wrong way down one-way streets... or ...riding on the pavement where there is not a designated cycle path...
  16. I presume that the platform wasn't in imminent danger of being used by a train?
  17. English Electric Archive reports that 'a handful' of 40s were still in green in 1978, when 40 106 was repainted into green rather than corporate Blue at its overhaul. Unfortunately for your assertion, the loco in J3708 has a central headcode panel (which limits it to D345-99), 40 106 (D306) has discs...
  18. Just like me when I'm shunting on the layout - "I'll get another wagon in if I put them hard up against the buffer stop..."
  19. The fact that it says IP= DISABLED leads me to suspect it went into some sort of diagnostic mode after a fault...
  20. Another amateur stab in the dark - single line name plate, number looks like it ends in a number with straight lines rather than curves - St Paddy or Pinza...
  21. Yes, but 24 hours later the wife returns the purchases to store and asks if she could exchange them...
