  1. The new 'Catch 22'? - Can't sell anything on eBay as haven't got any feedback; can't get feedback as hasn't sold anything...
  2. Thanks for the additional info. I did my original posting on my mobile and the smilie I added after the ellipsis failed to make it across the ether...
  3. The WR BGs probably got their workings engraved on the side because any Chocolate/Cream examples that made it anywhere near Clapham Junction were immediately 'borrowed' for use on the Bournemouth Belle...
  4. Each 4Rep power car was equivalent to a Class 73/1 (they used the same traction motors). They were rated for 90mph, but regularly reached the ton (but not officially), especially if the consist included only one 4TC...
  5. All that knitting up at Morpeth, and only one train had a coat hanger on the roof...
  6. Except if it was upside-down then the text would read 'Jəəq'...
  7. Not officially recorded (obviously), but there were several Bulleid Pacifics 'caught in the act' so to speak, by recorders in the last years of the LSW main line steam. 34042 (102mph), 35005 (105), 34013 on two occasions (100 each time), 35023 (101), 35007 (102), 35028 (103), 35003 on four occasions (100, 101, 106, 105), 34102 (100), 35008 (102) There were many occasion when locos reached the mid- to upper-90s but were prevented from going further due to scheduling or signalling reasons. Usual caveats as to accuracy apply...
  8. Re. the metal plates. As they are on the ones with the full brakes, would they be something to do with those - loading notification boards, Post Office use, etc?
  9. Two derivations I've heard of: 1) 'IG' was the old LBSCR telegraph code for Brighton (perpetuated on the SeMG page); 2) 'IG' stands for 'Intermediate Guard' as these were the first 4-car units to vary from the established practice of having a power car with guard/luggage area behind the drivers cab at each end of the unit (so why weren't the 'VEP's 'VIG's?).
  10. IIRC the final batch of 4Cep units (7205-11) were originally slated for the SW division but ended up on the SED at Ramsgate, due to service reorganisations making them surplus to requirements on the SWD. Brighton ended up with some (additional) earlier Phase 1 units as a result... The SWD had the second batch of 4Big units (7049-58) and most of the second batch of 4-Cig units (7337-66; 7357-66 went to Brighton) when new at Fratton to replace the Cor/Res units on the Portsmouth Direct, so the SWD had 'IG' units from 1970 onwards... Allocations of 'IG' units on 1/10/72 were: Brighton: 7031-48; 7301-36/57-76, 7400-05/27-38 <--- CD services London-Brighton/Eastbourne-Hastings/Littlehampton, Mid-Sussex line services to Bognor/Littlehampton, etc Fratton: 7049-58; 7337-56 <--- 'Portsmouth Direct' Wimbledon: 7377-99, 7406-26 <--- replaced pre-war units on Reading and associated services out of Waterloo Where Peter K might be getting his SED recollection from is the last 4Cig 'batch' was only one unit, 7438, which was to replace 4Cep 7181, written off in the collision at Marden on 1/4/69. 7438 was delivered with the final units of the 7367-437 batch and joined them at BTON.
  11. Exactly the reason I stopped using my local Aldi. The checkouts have a ridiculously small area for the operator to put the things they scan onto and virtually nowhere to rest your bag when you are packing things from said area. The time the operator found no room to put scanned items and tried to shove them further down the chute, causing some items to fall on the floor (breaking two items in glass containers) was the time I called for the manager and complained about the scanning procedure. Her unsympathetic attitude caused me to decline to pay for the items I had 'purchased' and a swift (and final) exit followed.
  12. At Chessington South, the footbridge which would have allowed access to the unused platform would have been built on the projection in the station building just in front of the canopy... And hasn't the station overgrown since 1975... https://www.flickr.com/photos/21602076@N05/6201482528
  13. He called back! Asked for son by name, I called up for him to answer on phone and said I'll be listening in, because this was going to be good... "Hello, I'm calling about the malicious software on your computer." (son) "Hey dude, how's it hanging? Have you called find out about the chillin' Twitch feeds I've been putting out lately?" (not far from the truth, there) "No, it appears you have malicious software on your PC, and I'm trying to sort it out for you." "I haven't used my PC for ages, let me see if I can get it connected up and switched on for you." "No, this has occurred recently on the machine you're currently using." "That's something new, I didn't know you could get viruses on an XBox 1 X..." "Sh1t..." <click>
  14. Legit - the ones that went through to London (Victoria) semi-fast would pick up a 'Tin Hal' at Gatwick Airport (and drop it in the other direction).
  15. I like how they've blurred the car number plate on the first picture but not on the second...
  16. Just had one on about 5 minutes ago. "Can I speak to Mr. Xxxxxx?" "Which one?" (son is definitely over 18 so gets calls of his own...) "There's more than one?" "Of course, this is a multi-occupation household" "I've just been asked to call Mr. Xxxxxx." "Well call back when you find out which one you're supposed to be scamming. Have a good day" <click> (Don't worry about the real name thing, he couldn't say it correctly to save his life)
  17. The stoppers would more likely have been 2Bil/Hal-type stock...
  18. We have about 6 computers of various makes and OS in the house. I ask them to hang on while I switch them all on, unless they can tell me which specific one they are referring to. They can't of course. I had one on the line for 25 minutes explaining to him that I can't do what he asks until he can identify the correct one. Entertained the wife and kids no end...
  19. Would that work on the Mother-in-Law as well?
  20. The plough at the right-hand end looks like an after-market replacement. Both ends should be like the one on the left...
  21. I would imagine that anything that is intended to be more in keeping with the surrounding environment in Bath would be made of coloured stone matching that of the existing structures...
  22. J6635 - the 101 has a different centre car - I'm not going to even try to identify it as my identification skill of BR 'Mark 1' DMUs is even worse than Dave's. Now SR EMUs, however...
  23. Did they put the sign up before the road flooded?
