  1. Hi All, No Mick, this is the start of the Discworld model floating above the main layout - that's the Librarian! Mind you, the Sasquatch thing looks a bit like me pre hair brush in the mornings... Joining Mick in running away! All the best, Castle
  2. Hi All, Another point here is that the GWR 4 cylinder 4-6-0s amongst many other Western designs have rear axles that are in the same area as the ash pan. The ash pan is designed in two parts with dampers fore and aft on both sections and a curved section going up, over and back down to clear the axle so this really wasn't a consideration. It was a very logical seeming answer though Andy - good guess! I hope this helps! All the best, Castle
  3. Hi Ray and Polly, I don't know, you drive all that way to get away from Didcot and one of 81E's locos follows you home! Lovely shot of her too. The semi - circular strip guides the tub onto the 'rails' on the flip down panel and this is a standard style building so it was common to a lot of sheds, built in different sizes to suit location and size of loco allocation. Kev - correct about the coal tubs! All the best, Castle
  4. Hi Jaz, That is absolutely the business! Little Max looks just like, er, Little Max! The question is often asked as to how a big hairy type like me ended up with a dog like him and it's an unusual story. He was a sort of rescue as he belonged to an widowed aunt of mine who herself passed away a few years back so he was looking for a home. Being a sucker for an underdog story (!) he ended up living here with the other half (who he dotes on) and myself. He was very nervous and timid after loosing his first owner but we seem to have sorted him out pretty much - he has taken a lot of work but it has been well worth it. Thanks for finding him a (virtual) home on Arboretum Valley too! All the best, Castle
  5. A Dogosaurus REX! Coat on and out of door... All the best, Castle
  6. Sorry Rob! So, I hear you have a really nice layout with wonderful GWR rolling stock on it for us all to look at - how's that going? There, I did it. A Nod to Brent post without the 'R' word. All the best, Castle
  7. I have just had a thought - when the Rhino is flicking irritating insects away with its tail or ear is it fly shunting? Coat on and out the door... All the best, Castle
  8. Which begs the question, does any RMWEB member out there have a chihuahua? I'll get my coat... All the best, Castle
  9. Hi C&WR, It's a case of the brain of a big dog just wrapped up in a smaller package. He thinks he's a German Shepherd but I don't like to tell him otherwise... All the best, Castle
  10. Like this: EDIT: Yes, I know he is illegally parked...
  11. Hi Jaz, More like picture 3 but with bigger ears! All the best, Castle
  12. Hi Jaz, You don't have to - sent for a giggle only! I don't want you to have to become the mad dog lady of old RMWEB town... If you do WANT to make a Max then he is quite big for a Westie. He is 330mm tall at the shoulder and 910mm long from the end of his nose to the end of his tail with tail stretched out straight. Measuring a curious Westie by the way is not easy! All the best, Castle EDIT: Sat up he is 500mm to the top of his ears which is to my knee.
  13. Hi Jaz, You know, I have a dog too... Meet Max. A White West Highland Terrier who loves trips to Didcot on the train, liver treats and watching TV! Enjoy! All the best, Castle
  14. Hi Jaz, If it wasn't absolutely perfect before - it is now! Brilliant - just brilliant! Why isn't there a 'really like' button on RMWEB? All the best, Castle PS: I have a jacket not unlike that too!
  15. Hi Jaz, Black is my signature colour - it's all black. The whole wardrobe. The lot! I took a leaf out of Albert Einstein's book - my decisions about what I wear in the morning is nice and easy. Check out the 2012 RMWEB visit to Pendon and Didcot thread and there is a picture of me doing my tour guide bit. If I wore ANY colour other than black at Didcot I think half the staff would faint. Not good when driving a loco so I avoid it! Some say my wardrobe is boring and predictable - I like to think of it as being dependable... All the best, Castle
  16. Hi Jaz, I am honoured and immortalised - although not wearing as much black as usual! I have heard tell that other colours are available but I don't believe it personally... Nice one! Castle
  17. Hi Jaz, I look just like that - only with more black... Great stuff! All the best, Castle
  18. Hi All, I have the book on the Titfield Thunderbolt and the reason that the coach body on the ex GWR LORIOT Y is very difficult to pin down is because it was actually a studio prop - built for the film. It follows no exact prototype. I think that Worsley Works do an etch for the W & U Railway bogie coach, possibly in 3mm scale but Mr D. will almost certainly run it in 4mm scale if asked. It's great to see the memory of this fantastic bit of railway and social history still being enjoyed and emulated so many years later. I really must drag out that kit of Lion and etched 'Thunderbolt' plates I have squirrelled away sometime... All the best, Castle

Hi KH1, Those that never make mistakes never make anything... Welcome to the club. Sent to try us and all that stuff - it will be great when it's finished! All the best, Castle
  20. Hi Ullypug, The layout looked great today - we really enjoyed seeing it! All the best, Castle
  21. Hi All, I agree with Mike here about the height and I would also add that applying some paint and weathering to help it blend in a lot more would also detract from any over scale features of the mouldings. This is a great looking layout - I hope I get to see it for real soon! All the best, Castle
