  1. Thanks Steve. Neither me or the consultant are 100% on how much of or if any improvement there will be. There is a distinct possibility that the problem lies elsewhere but this needs ruling out first. It's contributed towards there being a gradual tailing off of output. Some days are worse than others which slows things down a bit so any improvement, no matter how small, will be welcomed. But, there are modellers out there who cope with far worse adversity. Rob
  2. Came very close a week or so ago, Alan. But..........I've decided to stick with 4mm for the foreseeable. Too many nice things on their way......and I really do not have the space to do what I would want. Rob.
  3. Hi Steve, Green, Small Yellow Warning Panel. In my humble opinion, the best BR diesel livery. Period wise, it would place the layout at 1965-69. No full yellow ends, no double arrows, no TOPS panels. I currently have a selection ( using TOPS codes ) from Classes 03, 05 ( Wrong cab but rule 1 ) 08, 15, 16 ( stretching it a tad ) 24 and 37. DMUs from Class 105 and Derby Lightweight. On order are representatives of Class 31 and the W&M Railbus. An outsider would be a Class 21 which escaped the earlier mass exodus further north ( Massive rule 1 appliction there ). So when space becomes available, everything stockwise is there. Rob
  4. In other news........... I have ( I think ! ) secured an Accurascale EE Type 3, D6703. This is their exclusive and one which the ordering of I managed to make a rather good horse's ar$e of first time round. However, having received an email this afternoon from them, I'm pretty hopeful I've managed to resolve. Sadly, I haven't got a suitable layout on which it can play and probably won't for some time to come. Therefore, upon it's arrival, it will join it's other East Anglian diesel chums in store pending the construction of a bigger East Anglian BLT than is currently planned. On that subject, two of the J15s intended for the new project were tweaked yesterday using Bachmann decoders and were tested on Ewe. I have one more to do and one which will receive more attention to produce a more specific Mid Suffolk Light Railway example. Of the Mid Suffolk project, there will be a delay in it's start. Rather unexpectedly, I've been called in, some six months earlier than previously advised, to go under the knife. The plan is to operate on my right hand to try and alleviate the numbness/pins and needles I've been suffering from since early 2021. If succesful, they'll have a go at the as affected left hand once the right has healed. So, with a little over a week to go, I'm loathe to start anything. Once done, it will pretty much write off any modelling before Christmas, if the previous identical op/ recovery was anything to go by. However, I can at last make a start on organising SWAG'24....... Rob.
  5. Evening all, Rest assured, I have been conducting clandestine operations against Notenoughpanniers.................( copyright @figworthy ) Rob.
  6. Nice. Had to be done. This fictional East Anglian diesel era layout might have to get built now. All the stock.....no idea.........! Rob.
  7. Well, Fingers crossed, I think I've just secured D6703......... Rob.
  8. Phew ! I hoped you were being somewhat tongue in cheek !! Totally agree. Talk about flogging a dead racehorse......... Rob
  9. Hi John, Sorry but I can think of nothing less deserving. There are far more attractive locomotives to choose from including those more suited to smaller layouts. Accurascale are already leading the way and their price point must be giving Bachmann and Hornby a headache. Retailers offering Bachmann Class 37 'bundles' cannot be coincidental. No, time to look at more workmanlike subjects. Rapido have chosen well with their recent announcements. Dapol are developing their GWR 2.8.0s. An 8F from Accurascale would be splendid.......or...........a Jinty to modern standards.....but continuing with their Great Eastern theme.....an E4 2.4.0 is a bit left field but would be welcomed I'm sure or even an ex GER 2.4.2T such as an F5..........but there are loads more. Rob.
  10. Good to see you yesterday Chris and thanks for posting the photos. For me, Ashover was the stand out layout. Lovely pallette. Sadly, it seemed quiet and the organisers thought the numbers were down on last year. We had a good day on the stand though and trade was brisk at times. Hi Jon, Yes, always good to get to a show in any capacity. Saw quite a few people yesterday who weren't aware of my link to Lord and Butler and they were asking where the layout was ! On that point, like Chris, I'm starting to pick up invites to shows next year including a couple new to me. Once confirmed, I'll flag these up in due course as it's always nice to meet up with people. Rob.
  11. Morning Wayne. You know my thoughts on backscenes............. But.....if one has to then perhaps a trip up the valleys and obtain a few photos. I understand and can do a bit more digging but there is a printers in Penarth that might be able to stitch them together and print off a backscene suitable image. No idea of cost etc. However, plenty of time for that. There's a layout to knock together first ! Rob
  12. Evening Chris, I might see you there......Portsmouth '24 that is as I too have a tentative invite. Rob.
  13. Morning Kevin, The walls on Sheep Dip are cut down Bachmann slate walls. I used the bottom half for the loading dock and to support the nissen hut, the top half became the walls themselves. Full height walls here. And various other views showing how the cut down walls were used. Rob.
  14. Morning Steve, Crikey ! Thanks but the subject of a book has come up before but frankly, I'll leave that to those who can. Rob.
  15. Morning all and thanks for kind words and likes etc. I hope the photos illustrate how each of these small layouts provides it's own self contained and easily acheived little world......and some progression as I have learnt and continue to learn new things. The idea of creating small, linkable scenarios is a possibility but I like the variety that these small cameos can provide....literally each to their own as it were. The week end will see me here.... Not with a layout but I'll be working...Yep, I'm there on the Saturday with Lord and Butler. I've struggled to find a list of layouts etc but here's a screenshot taken this morning. If anyone is going do make yourselves known. Rob.
  16. Afternoon, Paul. I prefer the Cameo layout format. I can generally knock one up in about 6months ( bare boards-exhibition ) and it provides a self contained layout in terms of location, period and stock. This allows me to indulge my quite eclectic interests and arguably avoids the compromise that trying to do this on a larger layout would bring. I would, subject to space, have a roundy roundy and Edington Junction on the S&DJR would be a front runner but I worry I wouldn't cope well with limiting myself to one period/company on what would be a big commitment. So, for now at least, the smaller layout is what keeps me happy and has produced five different layouts in seven years......... Cue self indulgent posting of library photos hopefully illustrating the point........ Sheep Lane - 2016. Mutton -2017 Bleat Wharf -2018 Sheep Dip - 2020 Ewe -2022.
  17. A glass of Port does the trick, Wayne. I know this.
  18. I personally don't see the need for any additional interest. Not all Welsh NCB sites were jammed full of 'features'. There was a lot of desolation. Short grass, minimal low buildings sited away from the running lines ( suggesting lifted trackwork) , odd bits of rusting scrap. I see what Waynes doing here and it sounds very promising. I agree regarding the locos facing the same way but remember, Wayne is working within a small foot print. A larger loco depot would dominate the scene, turning it into a loco shed layout which I'm pretty certain is not the layout Wayne's looking to create. With regard to differing levels, again I see your point but the landsale yard at Brynlliw, was pretty flat. Rob.
  19. One day, I will do my utmost to replicate this finish......... https://www.flickr.com/photos/curly42/5884241483/
