  1. Short trains of these went up via Coleford to Whiteciffe Quarry in the Forest of Dean Chris
  2. In some photos that I assume are of black wagons the lettering does look to be white - or am I mistaken? Chris
  3. Hi Marc I'll see you at Bristol I'm helping with a friends layout best Chris
  4. I painted the figure - Halfords white spray primer on a cleaned up figure and then a succession of blue/greys based on Vallejo colours for the jacket and trousers; black for the hat with a badge touched in with a Games workshop colour similar to gunmetal (?Chainmail) flesh is an old acylic I got from a war gaming shop and it's very similar to the Humbrol enamel flesh I remember from my wargaming days in the 1970s......the secret is to use very littl paint on the brush and build up gradually - I also use a light with an in-built magnifier. (I'm glad I don't do much in 4mm any more..) I suspect you can squeeze the "torso" on to the existing seat if the legs are chopped off complete;y but I wanted a bit of a gap between panel and chest hence the back of the seat amputation... Chris
  5. I used seated diesel driver figures - I can't recall which ones but I think I bought them from Dart at Warley - what I do know is I had to cut off legs and then (as the view into the cab is relatively limited) I also removed the back of the seat and fixed it to the back of the driver once the driver's body had been fixed with epoxy to the base of the seat. It looks fine. Chris
  6. I'm just going to bump this as its a new show in a good cause and I know Mike Walker works very hard to get some really good layouts (....and mine) there - and I think he's succeeded Chris
  7. In my experience very difficult to solve - Following a switch to BR modelling after US endeavours I too was frustrated by the steel axle shimmy resulting from undertrack Kadee magnets. However I now use Code 83 "between the rails" magnets with my SMP Code 75 track (rather then the undertrack magnet) on Pixash Lane and that seems OK - if you can stand seeing the magnets - in my experience it has not caused too much detrimental comment and the hands-off uncoupling is a source of many compliments and questions ( to the extent I now carry a 300mm track with magnets and spare stock with me at shows and spend most of my time demoing KDs rather than running the layout - fortunately I take a team of 2-3 operators with me!) Chris
  8. Larger sheets of that quality would be very popular I think Chris
  9. Thansk but all the content really as I've seen a few "yearbook" recycled efforts and I was not happy!!
  10. Is it original material or re-cycled from the magazine? ( I have all of them - its one of the few I keep) Chris
  11. At last - a thread on Australian semaphores...
  12. Our next show is at Bishops Cleeve - Cheltenham on 6 December - looking forward to playing trains and also seeing Abbotswood Junction http://www.cheltmodrail.org.uk/preview.php?ExKey2=41

    Class 07 Diesel

Sorry for any misunderstanding - I meant work commercially in 7mm.

    Class 07 Diesel

Much as I'd love one I think if they can't make a RTR Class 14 work an 07 is equally unlikely
  15. Pixash will be at the Hornby Mag "Great Electric Train Show" at Gaydon this weekend - looks like a good show in an unusual venue http://www.greatelectrictrainshow.com/ Chris
  16. For anyone wondering about the small wooden blocks scattered around the board - when the layout is in transit I use those to support a specially shaped bit of board which gives me a large space for control boxes, tools etc between the two 4 ft sections
  17. Some photos of my rear - for those who asked The final shot is the short fiddle yard on the opposite end of the layout
  18. I will need to do some new photos - if time allows at Chippenham tomorrow I'll sort something out - the camera is packed... Chris
  19. Just a mild bump! We'll also be at Hornby Mag's GETS in October and a new show organised by Mike Walker in Cheltenham on 6 December
  20. You don't need to drop them to break them - I am at the point where I think replacing the plastic bits of brakevan footboards during construction is the way forward Chris
  21. We'll be at Chippenham next Saturday 27th http://www.bmrg.org.uk/exhibitions/chippenham/index.php
