Ed-farms
I certainly think this is the chassis for a Spam-Can Merc, 2016 or 2017 is the question?
RMweb Gold MikeParkin65 Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2015 That would be my guess. Interesting timing given the Bachmann announcemnt due on Monday

bigherb
Looks like one given the electric lamp with the lamp iron above it. Did any other Pacific's have electric lighting without outside valve gear? That's a jolly big flywheel.
Black 5 Bear
If it is a unrebuilt M/N I for one will be delighted, however let us hope that Bachmann have not had the same idea !!!! Edited February 27, 2015 by Black 5 Bear
locoholic
It's only a couple of months since Hornby's annual announcements. If this is an original MN, and Bachmann also announce one next week, I'm afraid I will buy the one in the blue box, just because Hornby could have so easily done this years ago, or even just announced it last December. Sometimes the decisions Hornby make are completely baffling.

With Bachmann we are still waiting for locos announced nearly three years ago (5MT, Class 24s etc) without so much as an update from them.

Sometimes the decisions Hornby make are completely baffling. The number of possible variations makes absolute duplication unlikely. Which I would go for (if any) depends on one of them doing the sort I want. Colour of box therefore undecided until definite plans are announced. Vardnoodleblast
False alarm - evenly spaced driving wheel axle centres rules out an MN. Back to the wishlists / Golden Arrow / kits / conversions / scratchbuilding...........
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2015 Can't be an original MN. It's driven by gears, not chains...

Back to the wishlists / Golden Arrow / kits / conversions / scratchbuilding........... MN coupled wheelbase = 7' 6" + 7' 6", in what way is that not evenly spaced? RMweb Gold mcowgill Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2015 The brake hangers/blocks aren't right for the Ivatt pacifics - the only things I can think of that had anything like that were Bulleid pacifics. Martin

RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2015 If a manufacturer announces a new project once the decision is made to produce then people will complain that it takes forever to produce the model (the lead time will be more than a year from first sign off for most projects) and if they leave it until they are within a year then they risk being accused of copying somebody else if another announces the same model. They are all in a bit of a catch 22 with this one, quite aside from the fact that there is no law against duplicated model releases.

RMweb Premium decauville1126 Posted February 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2015 The fairing meeting the buffer beam on this second image would seem to confirm the previous speculation. But which version? I would love 21C1 as originally built with the so-called "Widows Peak" styling but there are many variations and versions leading up to 1956 which could provide a vast number of loco and tender permutations.
