srihaggis
60163 and it's support coach arrived yesterday via road. Pics of the lowloader stuff on the GCRN facebook and twitter pages. It was shunted into the main shed today for work to continue. Quick snap on my phone as I left today inside the heavy engineering facility at Ruddington.
srihaggis
Forgot to add details for next weekend, pre-booking is advised, though a limited number of tickets should be available on the day (assuming they don't sell out beforehand). All return trips commence at Ruddington and run non-stop (except the reverse at 50steps) to Loughborough, not calling at Rushcliffe Halt. Each trip is 5 coaches on the air braked set, hot food available onboard, top/tail with 47828. RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2018 Great to see the update on 60163 for next weekend. This weekend saw the last runs of the visiting locos on the GCR. Having not seen any lineside action last weekend, I made for the chosen location south of Loughborough to see the lunchtime departures of 13065, then 8572, before they leave for home. After a sunny morning, the grey clouds arrived! The light and other factors do challenge my camera, but here are my best shots from this colourful pair of locos. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2018 The Brush 4 1705 'Sparrowhawk' has returned from its thorough overhaul at Washwood Heath, though not apparently operational yet. Seems to be missing the 'D' prefix to the numbers....... D1705.jpg The missing D is correct.......... The missing D is the least of your worries, the missing French engine is of more concern! Mike. 45125
The missing D is the least of your worries, the missing French engine is of more concern! Mike. Correct for a Blue one only needs the 12LVA if you paint it in TTG.......
RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2018 Correct for a Blue one only needs the 12LVA if you paint it in TTG....... What on earth does this mean...? Please translate into plain English! Dava
woodenhead
This was a class 48 to begin with so in green it would need it's Sulzer 12LVA engine rather than the standard 12LDA. Edited February 4, 2018 by woodenhead

RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 6, 2018 What's happening at Brush? See #432 & https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/local-news/talks-begin-270-brush-employees-1174001 270 turbogenerator staff under consultation over redundancy due to loss of business hit by renewable energy sources, but most of the reduced order book being made in Czech Republic anyway. Chinese factory closed. Transformer and traction business [owned by Wabtec] unaffected. Worrying times as they are exactly the kind of jobs a town [or person] does not want to lose. RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2018 Thanks [and au revoir] to Roger Shelley for a very interesting presentation on the GCR Leicester North Museum project in Quorn last night. A huge amount of historical work on the human and operating sides of the railway has been done. It's important this is not lost and ideally kept going. There were some insights on reasons why the project was pulled by HLF - escalating costs of the proposed building! The message: if we want a GCR Museum, it's over to us. Meanwhile 60163 Tornado is looking good on the GCRN trains at Ruddington, our volunteers are on board this weekend. Has anyone ever thought about building a museum at Ruddington to make it a real destination, there could be space for a building and a home for the GCR carriage collection? RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2018 60163 on the first GCRN run, non-stop through Rushcliffe Halt this morning. Weather a bit sleety but brightening up now. Lets not forget the smart 47 on the rear of the 5-coach set, 4 x HST trailers and Mk2 BSO. luckymucklebackit
Great locomotive, just a shame about the dodgy rolling stock lol. Agree - but what an example of "prototype for everything". Twenty years ago, if someone had said that you could witness the prototype Mk3s being hauled by a steam locomotive that was newer than them, and a class 47 on the back that was the real vintage part of the train they would have had you sectioned! RMweb Premium Dava Posted February 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 12, 2018 There is a class 50 at Leicester which could do with a run out, its been there a while, smartly painted and maybe a candidate for a diesel gala event? APOLLO
Shame about the Brush factory. Once these sort of highly skilled jobs go - they will never return. Meanwhile in China, S Korea etc -----. Brit15
LNERGE
I'll be interested to see what method of working is introduced between Loughborough and Hotchley Hill once the bridge is open.
James Harrison
Great locomotive, just a shame about the dodgy rolling stock lol. What's the problem? It's a 2000's- built loco hauling Mk.3 stock, to pair it with some Mk.1's would have been as inappropriate as pairing those same Mk.1's with (say) Bellerophon or Hardwicke. OK, tongue firmly in cheek there but there's still the question that when it comes to newbuilds, what exactly is appropriate stock to pair them with? It's not as simple as it is with original/ vintage/ veteran steam...
Butler Henderson
I'll be interested to see what method of working is introduced between Loughborough and Hotchley Hill once the bridge is open.Surely they will run through to Ruddington so no need for top and tailing. Zomboid
The access to Ruddington is awkward though, so how that gets dealt with will be interesting, at least until such time as the third side of the triangle is built.
LNERGE
The Loughborough - Hotchley Hill section will have the potential to have three trains approach it from different directions. It's also quite long.
srihaggis
Whilst I don't think anything is set in stone, one of the longer term aims is to get Hotchley Hill box restored which may be part of the solution for operations long term. RMweb Premium Dava Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2018 Lots happening on the GCR this weekend so worth a visit tomorrow if you're close by. 70013 is back and looks great running with 92214. Steam trains on the Mountsorrel Branch with the 'J94' and a Gronk for the first time. All good fun. http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/special-events/mountsorrel-march-2018/ Dava

All good fun. http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/special-events/mountsorrel-march-2018/ Dava Yes, had an enjoyable morning at Mountsorrel - hadn't seen it since the opening weekend a couple of years back, and was impressed by the progress with the project. Had a couple of runs with the 'J94' and Gronk combination, plus watching the little Ruston shuffling wagons around the sidings at Nunckley Hill, then nipped over to Loughborough in the afternoon for a run behind 'Cromwell'. Diesel service (when I was there, late afternoon at least) was in the hands of the 20, rather than the 37 originally billed on the GCR website, but all very good fun Edited March 25, 2018 by Invicta
