RMweb Gold Downendian Posted November 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2016 A much more modestly priced £12 for this one. Not the best of scans, the original slide is better than this Lo-res photo. D1039 Western King at Reading 1971-3, a rare shot in BR blue. RMweb Gold Downendian Posted November 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 13, 2016 Note the smaller rectangular ventilation grille on D1039, which made her unique. Compare to Jonny's photo of D1056 a few posts up. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95191-neils-hydraulic-pics/?p=2419407 Neil

br2975
I recently bought this on Ebay for about a fiver (can't remember without looking it up). It is not too sharp but in reasonable nick. A Western at Westbury on a stone train, but I can't read the name on the original. It is not very long - maybe 5 or 6 letters and not as long as Western on the nameplate. I hope that hydraulic experts can suggest which loco it might be? Scan-160901-0001.jpg 2V67 ................ Crewe - Cardiff via the North & West. In this case, I doubt that very much ? . jonny777
I managed to secure this slide on Ebay for the sum of £9.38 which I thought was not bad - given the prices hydraulic photos fetch these days. Warship pictures from the 1960s do not come up that often anyway, and although there is a little blue spotting on the transparency it scrubs up quite well for one that is 53 years old. It shows 4903 'Astley Hall' meeting D868 'Zephyr' at Tiverton Junction on 14th August 1963.
jonny777
This was only £3.80, although there has been some light ingress on the left; either that or a dodgy bit of film processing, hence the low level of interest. It shows D1047 'Western Lord' leaving Penzance, but is undated - and the other Western lurking in the distance is not identified. There seems to be a dodgy piece of trackwork between the two turnouts bottom right, but I suspect that was just due to a baseboard join?

RMweb Gold Downendian Posted December 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2016 Approaching the Xmas break, and a week prior to Xmas leave, when undoubtedly some modelling to be done. One of my bucket retirement to do lists will be a series of books on hydraulics and other diesels, driven by the photos I've collected. For the Westerns, I'm particularly interested in picking up photos of the final rail tours, of which I saw a few lineside, but pocket money didn't stretch to buying a ticket to be part of the action. Picked this one up earlier, the Western South Western at Paddington, over 40 years ago 30 October 1976, headed by D1023 and D1009. TEDDYBEAR D9521
At Beverley on the run home. Rob Yes a good day out but towards the end of the trip D1015 suffered a engine failure on the B end the loco has been withdrawn from service and will not be working the Feb 16 trip for 40 years. Sad news indeed I hope the DTG can work their magic and get them Maybachs running again and back on the main line.

RMweb Gold Downendian Posted February 28, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2017 A few copyright slides won last night. First up D869 Zest at Temple Meads 25/6/69, a former Colour rail slide, but now my copyright. I wondered why I thought I'd seen it before. Second is my first colour image of a green Western, been after one for a while D1037 at Paddington 10/10/62 Finally a scrapped D1034 at Laira 28/1/76 The Western slides were picked up for a tenner in a batch of 3, a real bargain especially for the shot of D1037.
