I once mentioned cellulose thinners to the late-lamented Mick Bonwick in the context of airbrush cleaning......I only did it once....just saying..

There's no quick way to properly (correctly) clean an air brush.  You have to take it apart lovingly and gently rub it's bits with a suitable solvent (read yer manual for which one, it depends on what the rubbery bits are made from).  Then give it all a nice polish and put it back together with some lube (of your choice, because by now you know what's safe👍), my personal preference is for a bit of needle juice... yum

Cellulose thinners.

Takes no prisoners. Dirt flees screaming from it.

I use it for cleaning ancient carburetors, dynamos, switches etc. Beats sonic cleaning every time.

Graphite is a great way to keep contact surfaces clean, it stops arcing on passing contacts, eg point blades.

Cellulose thinners will demolish the seals in an airbrush, then again, so will paints with heavy pigment.

When I was spraying a lot of sandblasted chassis parts with high zinc primer, I would use one of those really cheap Machine Mart spray guns, (about £12!) Five litres of paint used and the gun leaked everywhere.

I never used my Binks for anything but top coat.

I clean my track and loco wheels with isopropyl on a cotton bud……when I can be arsbothered

I’ve used it to clean an airbrush before but I wouldn’t do it again, it has a tendency to ‘gum up’ any paint residue

I strip my air brush and dunk everything in cellouse thinners, cleans of Humbrol enamel a treat, polish the needle and the jobs as good as new.... I've had the badger since 1979.... keep thinking I could do with a new one, but it still delivers the goods.

Most of my paint is Halfords rattle cans, the badger just gets used for varnish or odd colours that Halfords don't do in enamel

Morning all,

Progress slowed on the new “quicky layout” for a variety of reasons. I rejoined the fray yesterday evening and lifted and relayed one of the points which was not quick right. Job for today is to replace the electrical feeds disturbed during the procedure so new wires and fishplates will be attended to.

My initial intention of finishing this to an acceptable standard by the end of the month may need revising but I’ll keep plodding on and see where it takes me.

In terms of exhibitions, it looks to be as follows,

March-Nailsea with Sheep Dip

April-NEWGOG representing Lord and Butler

          SWAG’24

April/May Bristol visitor (Friday afternoon)

June-ExmoorRail with EWE

          Exeter with EWE

July-Penarth with EWE

        Larkrail visitor.

August-Railwells visitor (Probably Sunday)

September-Kidlington with Sheep Dip

                     Derby with EWE

I’m also looking to visit the Stafford show, probably Saturday.

October- Taunton with EWE

Another busy year.

Reckon I’ll be heading to Stafford again this year. ‘Twas a good ‘un!

Whether I can swing a visit for the third successive years is not certain, but Sherry's daughter in Crewe, her multiple friends in and around Stafford and the Haywoods, and a son in Rugeley do give me a fighting chance!

If it's a good one, the seals should cope with any oil based paint. But as has been pointed out, clean it immediately afterwards and don't leave it soaking in thinners

Also, as Notenoughpanniers has rightly pointed out, a gentleman doesn't wipe it on the curtains...

Multiple snifters I reckon. But not enough snifter to be malfunctioning the following day.

One snifter rarely seems to be enough, in my experience...
