RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted May 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2023 Thank you for that insight into the heroic efforts of the military musicians on the big day. After playing and marching for hours in the rain their train journey home must have been a relief but very steamy! What a contrast between the superb music in all parts of the Coronation to the concert in Windsor park !
RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted May 8, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2023 Morning all, Well, railway things are quietly progressing..........ish.... This morning I've managed a bit of planning, Sheep style......I am pretty rubbish at visualising stuff so need to plan in 3D. The trackplan is the same as EWE but reversed. In other words, it will be viewed from what is currently the backscreen side. The intention is to use medium radius peco bullhead points and trackwork on the new build so the track formation will be slightly more bendier, innit. More images to follow. RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2023 Hmmmm, that looks rather nice (again...). PLease can you remind me how big the baseboard is.
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted May 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2023 Laying out tracks actual size, be they real or paper facsimile, quickly tells you if the layout is viable. Pencil sketches can look glorious but may prove wholly inaccurate, with loops and sidings that are too small to be of use. Here, the pudding has been proved. 1 5
RMweb Gold Popular Post NHY 581 Posted May 8, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2023 To expand on the above......... Of the buildings in situ, all will be repainted or weathered to a greater or lesser extent. I wanted to give this layout a pre-grouping, early to mid twenties vibe and set about obtaining the Bachmann Pendon buildings. These are really farm type buildings but I think they'll work in a small, undeveloped wharfside setting ( though we might have to fit the locos with spark arresters....!) I'm awaiting the arrival of one more building which will sit on the right hand side of the layout amongst this grouping which will therefore vary a tad from this... Inspiration has come from ( in no particular order ) Louis's lovely Ingleford Wharf, Martyn's sublime Upbech Town Quay and various contemporary images on the internet. There won't be any big boats though. In addition, the entrance made by squeezing between buildings was an original thought for Bleat Wharf Mk, as below, back in 2018 but it didn't survive the great dismantling of Mk1 and the subsequent rather hurried build into BW Mk2. I'll be revisiting this approach to entering the scenic section... Small Southern tank engines are the order of the day. There'll be an avoidance of any company signage so I can flit between SE&CR, L&SWR or early Southern Railway. Ground level will be raised, using DAS as per SOP, to sit flush with the top of the rails. The long siding to the front will be inlaid using DAS which will be carved to represent a stone surface. The other siding to the rear... may well be inlaid using planks... The rest of the track will be fine ballast. Much still to fine tune but I'm happy thus far....... PLease can you remind me how big the baseboard is. Hi Stu, Thanks. I'm currently working on a 120cm x 40cm footprint. This is the easiest option to navigate the stairs when removing from the Room of Doom......but I do have a 120cm x 60cm baseboard ready to go. The extra width would of course be beneficial, allow more bendy trackwork and will add to the spacious feel. So, not ruled out but I do want to retain a single scenic baseboard. RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted May 8, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2023 We can of course rely on George, The Mischievous Apprentice to fully apply himself to the planning process......as we see here..... 9 2
Winslow Boy
Well that's certainly different Rob to your last couple of offerings. As you say harking back to Bleat Wharf with a lot more buildings - dare I say it almost urban looking to your usual open settings. I foresee plenty of challenges for you so should keep you busy for some time.

mullie
where is the third photo, is that kings Lynn too? Thank you for the compliment about Upbech, it really was cobbled out of buildings I already had, that were then revamped. The pub in its much smaller form and the lock up were originally built around 1998 and then left laying in a box when the first Essex loft layout built from set track and code 100 streamline was dismantled. The thatched cottage was originally built for the box file version of Upbech in around 2008, recycled modelling or what! Martyn

The 2018 photos look a bit 'Chris Nevard.' You have a really nice selection of buildings to work with, loads of potential. 1
