That logic only works if your hill is higher than the next one - read about a woman last year in Somerset, bought a house on a hill thinking she was safe from flood. Then the rain came, the road outside her house became a raging river - fed from a reservoir that was higher than her house on a hill. 2 1

As for industrial action, the railways are one of the last places in North America that still see strikes...

MrWolf
I think that Hepton Wharf as High Bleat is a great idea, but don't let it distract you from Project X just yet! Actually, the images of Shallcross have given me an idea that is going on paper.... I hate you all..... RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted October 28, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 28, 2021 Bonnet de Douch, Rob. No, Project X is maintaining it's molluscesque progress. Nothing doing this week but I'm hoping to pick up the pace a tad over the next couple of months. I, along with others I suspect, would be intrigued with the thought of you putting together a "Cameo Layout" based on Shallcross.........as a bit of a side project you understand....nothing binding..........perhaps a bit ex- L&NWR......G2 forcing it's way through the weeds Just saying..... 10

I always remember an LSWR / GWR layout in one of the monthly comics called Much Cussing In The Marsh. IIRC it was very detailed, damned if I can find any reference to it on the interpornet.. It was either Railway Modeller or Model Railway Constructor.

MrWolf
The water tank fed by an overhead chute from a spring (Talyllyn Railway?) is just inspired and so simple. For some reason, it's things like that I find more atmospheric than some grand meticulous replica of King's Cross or similar. I've been hooked since page 2... 2
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted October 29, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 29, 2021 Absolutely. I find it totally captivating. Tom's photos are lovely. Nothing jars. The colour pallette is so consistent and it produces such a wonderfully rich overall picture. Rob
MrWolf
I'm currently studying the lineside weed growth beside the forestry crossing and making some mental notes for the area around the headshunt at Aston, based on the material types recommended by @Alister_G, I'm actually looking forward to sinking around 700 fence posts amongst the weeds now.* *This newfound enthusiasm may of course be subject to numerous reversals. Tom F
Thanks for the kind comments guys! It’s been such an exiting journey making Scaca and this was my first venture in creating such a variety of scenics. North Wales, the Lake District and the Awdry books themselves were the inspiration for the scenics themselves and that seems to have worked well. The water tower and aqueduct used inspiration from Ty Dwr on the Talyllyn for the actual look of the stone work and weathering, but the actual design comes from the Awdry books. Today I’m heading off down to Tony Wright’s for some help putting the etched piston rods on Skarloey. Then both old engines will be together again at last, to work their little line in the Eastern District of Sodor. Oh and plans are afoot on the next Skarloey layouts…..after so many failed projects, making the fictional Awdry world ‘real’ seems to be my calling. As one who has 'sown' the occasional weedy patch, can I suggest drilling and then marking the holes for the fence with cocktail sticks or similar, prior to 'planting the grass'..............laying long static grass over pre drilled holes or, just as bad, drilling holes into areas already covered in long static grass/weeds and stuff can cause 'issues'when trying to find said holes within said areas of long static grass.... I know this. 4 minutes ago, Tom F said: Thanks for the kind comments guys! It’s been such an exiting journey making Scaca and this was my first venture in creating such a variety of scenics. A pleasure to comment on a lovely layout which so accurately portrays the writings of Rev Awdry. I shall look forward to see Skarloey appearing.
