This is the sort of thing I'd like to see done in RTR by one of the niche players in the market.

Why have we only got Whickham trollies and HO scale 07-16 tampers ?

No ballast regulators, stone blowers or any of the other types of tamper.

How many of us could afford, or accommodate, a seven vehicle train?

I should have included the 2-car MPV in my opening post of course.

But if seven it too many, how about a 3 car Robel Mobile Maintenance Train?  It doesn't have all the knobbly bits of a tamper or some of the early OTP, so easier to design.  If you want to add working gimmicks, the extending sides would not be difficult to implement.

Quite simply market forces - probably not enough potential sales.

You could always commission them yourself.

Plenty in HO  of course, including "working/sound" ones from Viessmann & you could get away with using them with OO stock (after all, they will be in scale with the track).

It would seem that model producers are already wary of multi-unit trains on the grounds of price.

If this applies to mainstream multiple units, what chance models of niche departmental trains that would only rarely appear on the prototype?
