Robatron86
I keep finding those horrible modern yellow plastic bins. I have now tried "wooden salt bins" and it looks a little more promising. ย Thank you for the rough dimensions. I can at least attempt to scratch build a freelance one Edited December 14, 2015 by Robatron86
long island jack
Are you going to paint those magnets white?, toย blend them in. ย you'll need footprints in the snow, if your having people. lol ย Ray
shortliner
Always remember the advice " Don't eat yellow snow !" - I agree that a white dusting over the magnets and foot-prints would work well.
Robatron86
I had a problem with disguising the magnets as these are the second set of magnets after the first batch were covered in paint and then stopped working as effectively. Further experimentation is required. Footprints will be added when I am next out in the shed and remember!
long island jack
Never had a problem with painted magnets, not that I use Kadee 321 magnets, (don't like the shuffle) I use 312 cut in half when i'm burying them in paved/concrete areas or those small powerful ones (that I can never remember the name of) everywhere else!!ย ย Ray
Robatron86
Maybe the paint was too thick. I'll give it a go and report back. Do you mean neodymium magnets?
DanielB
Lovely work on this layout Rob, truly. ย What exhibitions are you booked for in 2016, if you don't mind me asking? I need to catch up with you.
Robatron86
Thanks matey ย I have 2 confirmed so far. The first one is at the Solent Model Railway Show, February 27th and 28th (might be a bit too far south for you mind! Details of the showย http://solentmodelrailwaygroup.webs.com/modelrailwayexhibition.htmย )ย ย Second show is TVNAM in June. Are you exhibiting this year?ย ย The unconfirmed show of the year may be at the Croydon MRC show in November. Again a bit too southerly!
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 21, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2015 Looks like we will see you at TVNAM
DanielB
I'll be at TVNAM, not sure what layout I'll be taking, though it's likely to be West Allen Street unless Nick want's me to bring something else? ย I can't remember if Nick's started planning it yet. Robatron86
If you do bring West Allen Street, let's hope we get put together. Dat ATSF!
DanielB
That would be cool. Though I've got a couple of sound fitted - soon to be "Midland Belt" - locos I'd likely run it with. ย People like sound.
Robatron86
I saw a huge DCC sound layout at the Farnham show (Falcon Road, BR blue diesels), and I have to say I'm still not sold on DCC sound personally. They all sound great, but for me I need the rumble, the rush of air as it passes, all the stuff that is impossible to accurately recreate in HO. Although I will say, and I hope I'm not shot for this, American sound locos do sound better than UK sound locos, and diesels sound much better than steam. Just my opinion of course. I would never try and talk anybody out of DCC sound.

long island jack
especially if there Alco's
Robatron86
3 of my 5 loco's for this layout are Alco's. Must be something in the water...
DanielB
Yup. Diesel/Oil.
Zomboid
I think it's because ALCos are just better than everything else. Unless you're trying to run an actual railroad, but that's beside the point.
Robatron86
Coat, door, gone Danย ย I totally agree. They are the best.So I have been trying to find a way of disguising the fact that the overbridge goes nowhere. The bus is one part of it but the other part is this:Hmmm. I'm not at all convinced. Robatron86
Maybe. I'm more unconvinced by the gantry than the vehicles. It might look better in situ than on my sofa.ย
mikjd
Maybe. I'm more unconvinced by the gantry than the vehicles. It might look better in situ than on my sofa.ย ย Try moving the gantry in a little bit ...... ย Mick.

Robatron86
That's what I was worried about. Hence why it is set as far back as possible. The gantry is a butchered Dapol signal gantry as I don't have the skill to build one from scratch. I think building one would be worth a go because looking at it in place, it's only ok as a highway gantry.ย
Zomboid
Would a road like that have even had a gantry in 1957?
