Talking of daft, most of you must remember this: http://www.flickr.co...g06/6114947363/ but was it preserved and still around? I remember seeing it at open days yonks ago! eetype3
Back to Bedford HA vans again... Here's a simple tweak to improve the Corgi Trackside HA. I realised why my two examples didn't look quite right in profile, comparing with photos of the prototype - the sills were missing! Quite representative of the real thing as it approached maturity, but... Cut 23mm-long sections of 1 x 1mm 90deg angle styrene. Glue to the edges of the plastic "underframe" insert, such that they sit inside the bodyshell with the 'point' downwards - to represent the angled outer sills. Prime and paint - done! Photo below (which will hopefully work - I'm better with styrene than technology, and I'm not great with styrene) shows untweaked KYM8P on the left, and modified YCH625Y on the right. Took about half an hour, including paint. Right, now to provide KYM8P with sills, and finish YCH625Y with roof bars, rear fog lamp and T-handle on the right rear door.

Well spotted Jim, I hadn't noticed. Will have to do mine. I like all the subtle differences between the earlier and late models, the changes from silver to black trim etc. Merf. andye
One from flickr above, a nice selection of Ital vans, plain HV vests, so must of been the mid eighties? Question is - the white lorry on the right, its a crewbus of some type, I reckon by the cab windows its a ford cargo, but what is it, whats the lettering on the side say? Were they ever hired in if BR didnt have enough? Andy

Were they ever hired in if BR didnt have enough? Andy Andy, Yes to all your questions. I remember these, but never took any photos. Interleasing was the company, I think based in Stoke on Trent, or at least our local ones came from there. Later taken over by the Cowie group who renamed themselves Arriva. B R often hired vans from Interleasing, many Transits, and the company fitted them out to BR requirments, for messing. The Cargos for the PW gangs and Trannys for us (S&T) . I think they were Ford dealers as we also saw Escorts for the 'managers'. Merf.
Lyddrail
The white lorry is from Interleasing, we had vans from them like the pictures below. Transit in top left corner. Larger transit. Both at Tonbridge and I assume used by S&T. Cheers.

Great pics as well! Andy Thanks Paul & Andy for confirming me as correct with the Interleasing name. It reminded me of this Transit we had, fully fitted out to BR spec. as a tempoary measure when we had our maintainence teams made up from 2 men to 3. We previously used Astra vans, and had this Transit till a batch of new Sherpa 400s came some months later. And one I found on the net tonight (not much on the telly) at Inverness in 1994 http://www.flickr.com/photos/64345695@N06/8203963742/in/photostream Looks to me a bit like a Volkswagen LT. Any better ideas ? I recall the LMR had some Renault Master pick ups at the time, the foreigners getting their foot in the door ! Merf.

The tractors were by Internationa who had a factory in Doncaster. They were loaded by the ramp behind onto the flat wagons for export. Remember when we did things like that ! Merf. The crane, a fairly modern Coles of some sort. Pretty heafty beast needed to lift one end of those hopper wagons to put the wheels back. ringo
Andy, interesting one that BRUFF, it may be a prototype, as it does not have any BR arrows on it, and its a B reg one, definately in the BR days though given the other stuff arroiund it......intriguing.... I went to the Emergency Services show las week at Stoneleigh, to see if they had anything of use to us for recovery equipment.......I now want a Charmicial Bodied Scania twin cab with special racking for MFD gear painted in Yellow as a support truck for breakdown and recovery, now fit that with SRS road/rail equipment, and you have a fully modern BRUFF, but at about £300K I dont think my Directors will be buying me soon.....boo! Not the best picture, but were is this Railtrack Renault these days? See below [attachment=225946:Railtrack rescue veh.jpg Actually I have found more info out on this ExRailtrack truck, now Network Rail Owned, and a link to the manufacturers of the new body, I assume this was the old Severn Tunnel rescue truck, that was a curtain sider but is now ridgid bodied....... Heres a link to their site, http://www.polybilte...m/news/view/106 Cheers Ringo Edited November 26, 2012 by ringo
ringo
I dont think Network Rail will be buying any of these though..... Made in India for track inspections, the worrying thing is look at the drive unit from the back wheel! Dont think it complies with the UK standards for Road/Rail equipment! More like a Wallace & Grommit Railomatic! Cheers Ringo Edited November 26, 2012 by ringo

Merfyn Jones
On a similar theme, have you seen the new road-rail motors for the West Highland ? Iveco Daily 4x4 crew cab pick ups. Suppose they will be to replace the ex First Eng. Land Rovers. I forgot to save the link, but they can be found on 'flickr' by searching "Network Rail" Merf. Arthur
Some interesting views of a Scottish based TK tractor unit here; The first two show the vehicle in the yard at Carron Ironworks near Falkirk, no date sadly. The wagon is Carron Ironworks No. 755, presumably once in main line service and more recently internal use only, and probably now bound for preservation. The second image shows it at what may be a BR yard somewhere? Interesting that there appears to be no evidence of retaining ropes or chains, the wagon seem to be held by timbers on the trailer deck.
ringo
Phil, Im already working on a version thats in use with Transport for London, they have several vehicles based on a Mercedes Chassis, and a fire tender rear end, no water space though as its filled with rerailing and recovery gear, some are double cabs others are single cabs. Some are fitted with Blue light too, but if they are used under blue light, then they have to be driven by the police, and are suitably labelled as such, however they do not have any rail wheels. By the pattern of the end door, I'd guess it was ex North British Railway.

Facinating shots there. Not often we see Scottish vehicles. A Bedford KEA or KFA = 8 ot 10t unit. With an odd positioning of the fleet number, they were usually behind the cab door on yellow livery. Another TK artic unit on 'flickr' http://www.flickr.com/photos/rgadsdon/8221383738/in/contacts/ Odd to see one witha 3ton van trailer, but look at the weathering !
