Merfyn Jones
A rare find today, one of the Ford Thames ET6 personnel carriers from c1955/6. A few photos in my collection in B&W at depots but none out on the patch. Some were used by loco sheds for crew transport, is this a case of onr used for a PWay gang ? Merf. One of these survived into the 1990s with new age travellers. It turned up a couple of times on encampments in the Rutland/ Lincs /Leics area around 1992. I can remember seeing it at an illegal rave near Spanhoe Airfield around 1992, in company with all manner of other semi-derelict machines, and it was still in the area several weeks afterwards. 43110andyb
A couple of 'new age' conversions here as well. (edited and still cant get the text to the right place) Edited November 4, 2010 by 43110andyb
Merfyn Jones
A couple of 'new age' conversions here as well. Two that I have seen before, there are quite a lot on the travellers site. First is a Dodge G08 long wheelbase with a 22 seat body normally used for the P Way relaying gangs. I want to do a model of one but does anybody know the wheelbase length ? The second a Bedford TKELC5 chassis with the Wolverton body for S&T teams, with 11 seats and a large tool and workshop compartment. As the Oxford model. Merf. jcb 3c
This is a bit of fun, moving dolphins! in a ex BR Maudslay Horsebox reg.no. FDR70 http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=2155
Merfyn Jones
This is a bit of fun, moving dolphins! in a ex BR Maudsley Horsebox reg.no. FDR70 Superb find there. FDN 70 was ZK 0110 N, a Maudslay Marathon / Harrington, one of 4 delivered to the North Eastern Region (FDN70-3) between Dec.1950 and Jan.1951. I wonder when it was sold off for further use ? Merf. jcb 3c
Yes when i first saw the film i thought it was still in BR service as all the new owners have done is painted out the BR totems. I wonder if any of these horse boxes have survived ? None are known to have survived, but who knows what may be lurking in a barn somewhere? The chassis used was actually intended for a bus/coach and it often happened that the horsebox body was removed and replaced by a bus body. Many such chassis were also exported (minus their bodies). The chassis used was actually intended for a bus/coach and it often happened that the horsebox body was removed and replaced by a bus body. Many such chassis were also exported (minus their bodies). I would love to find that barn ! but realisticly, being built in 1950, the quality of timber and other materials was not that good. Very few buses from that period have survived. Also the demand for front engined buses disapeared in the 50s due to the introduction of the new fangled underfloor engine models. If the film was made in 1966 then it survived very well considering. Keep checking in those barns, but I think a major amount of replica construction would be needed. Merf.
jcb 3c
Highly unlikely -but you never know though , farmers are famous for stuffing stuff away . Not so long ago seven mint WW2 FWD trucks came out of a UK farmers barn.

The only difference was these dated from the Great War!

Merfyn Jones
A few pictures found on Flickr. Barnsly station yard Feb 71 A 1960 Karrier Bantam with coach built parcel van body, I believe unique to the Eastern Region, with behind a similar body on the Commer BF. Commer walkthru Crewe diesel TMD 1985 Mail by rail, Livapool Lime Street, 1985.( Ok not railway owned this one.) Ford D300 was the same as those used by BR and NCL at the time, although the Post Office trailers had cupboard doors, BR roller shutters. 1976 Commer walk-thru Kingscross 1984 Frodsham 1984 The 22 seat version of the FG personnel carrier used by the relaying gangs. Note windows higher than the normal type, but a good posibility for a conversion from the Base Toys. Some interesting finds there bubbles , that I had found myself, but don't know how to add the link ! Just a few coments that may help above. Merf. One or two surprises for me- the four-axle mobile crane at Wolverhampton being one. The other was of a Ford Cargo hauling containers out of Pengam- I didn't think they were rated for anything that heavy.
Arthur
 There were plenty of 32t rated Ford Cargo tractor units and some were rated at 38 tonnes. Ford pushed them up to that weight after the demise of the Transcontinental.
jcb 3c
Great flickr site Merfyn. The current Back Track mag has a distant Karrier dropside at Evesham on the colour centre spread. Merfyn Jones
Great flickr site Merfyn. The current Back Track mag has a distant Karrier dropside at Evesham on the colour centre spread. Some more glimpses- BR Coles crane in carmine red Noel Park 1958 Transit crewbus Wadebridge 1977 Thornycroft Amazon Coles crane 30 year old and shiny, probably not BR? Ansells brewery colour 1950s -Don’t know wether it’s a BR truck at the bottom right but the Bedford O series beer tankers a beaut back end Fordson van Sidmouth 1965 Thanks again jcb, I had to go and buy the back track. I think the Karrier is a Gamecock, but not too sure. I have not come across one like this before with a dropside body for B R. Being Evesham it would be Western Region and I think they had a lot of dropsides for handling the fruit from growers to the station/s. The Coles crane in red, an opertunity for a second livery for the Corgi model. The Amazon crane, well I know of 1, bought by the LNER during the war and in use by B R during the 50s. I have pictures of it in both blue and crimson. The lorry at the brewery (I was a regular customer of Ansells 30 years ago) looks to be probabley a B R Bedford OSS artic unit. The Ford Thames ET6, a fairly standard 3 ton parcel van of the period. I have added some more to my flickr site but beware, only for those into 'Modern Immage' Merf. Adam
The Amazon crane, well I know of 1, bought by the LNER during the war and in use by B R during the 50s. I have pictures of it in both blue and crimson. At Newton Poppleford at that point in '67 I reckon that the crane is more likely to belong to the demolition contractor doing preparatory work for closure than the railway. That said, it appears to be stacking drainage pipes so another contract job seems possible? Adam
Merfyn Jones
A flickr site given to me yesterday that contains a number of ex B R vehicles after transfer to NCL in 1969. The Leyland Beaver was a one off from the Southern. The Fodens ex Western after transfer all over the country. Bedford TK artic with a crane added. Superb stuff. kevblokey
The Coles crane in red, an opertunity for a second livery for the Corgi model. Another opportunity, The GPO had similar in that nice PO Telephones green livery for positioning telephones boxes of from Austin O series trucks (at least that's what my photo is of!)
