RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 12, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 12, 2014 I had occasion to visit Fowey Docks and Burngullow Yard in connection with work-related matters a couple of weeks ago. Fowey Docks: Burngullow:

brianusa
Thanks for an interesting bunch of pictures that one would rarely see without someone in the know. Unusual location for the stop block! Brian.
RMweb Premium John Isherwood Posted August 12, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 12, 2014 I'm totally bemused by the track configuration in the 3rd from last photo!!! Presumably, when you inset track in concrete, it's cheaper to leave redundant track in place when you revise the layout than to recover it! Hence the survival in the SW, at least until recently, of several old dockside layouts, including broad gauge. Regards, John. Regards, John Isherwood. Jock67B
Superb shots as usual Captain, the China Clay industry has certainly changed a lot from the era that is shown in the Wheal Martyn museum exhibits! Thank you and kind regards, Jock. PS Tim, is Burngullow now closed? Doesn't look like the tracks have been used much lately. Like some of the stations we've seen recently in 'Cornwall Today', it looks like a visit by the weed killer train would be useful at Fowey!. Jock. Most of the yard at Burngullow is Imerys infrastructure, and it is not in use. There is one siding there - Methrose Siding, that is NR infrastructure, and which has a future for loading of secondary aggregates (sand from china clay production). Apart from that, the only rail use consists of dealing with the traffic onto and off the Parkandillack branch.

RMweb Gold Corbs Posted August 13, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13, 2014 The track in the first Burngullow picture is almost like the cross section of a tree showing the rings - so much like Brian Harrap's quayside track with Quai:
