GWR88
Morning all, I've recently been looking at detailing a loco. Namely a spectrum dash 8 in BNSF warbonnet. Can any of you guys suggest any ways i could maybe do this loco up to look presentable. I as mainly thinking along the lines of wind deflectors, window wipers, AC units and MU hoses, antennas and RC antennas. Any info on where exactly any of these items were placed on the roof will greatly help me! Also, any otherideas you guys haves will help alot! Thanks Lloyd
Multiple identity account
Hi Lloyd,Try www.precisionscaleco.com You need to go to the detail parts section and download the HO scale catalogue. They sell a whole load of detailing parts for American models and I just discovered the website recently. With regards to positioning of the various details it is best to find images of the prototype.Cheers!JB.

warbonnetuk
For photos try either http://www.locophotos.com or http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/ Β I'm assuming that this is an HO model you're working on? If so Details West do v nice etched nickel silver wind deflectors, Detail Associates do windshield wipers specifically for wide cabs, every parts supply makes a version of the large and small Sinclair antennas you'll need for the cab roof + IIRC you'll need a cone antenna that DW do Β If you are really going for it then two bits of detail that really make a diffence are the cable runs under side sills that run down both sides of Dash 8, 9, AC4400Β and GEVO's. Again DW do traction motor cable sets for one side and a specifc GEΒ cable set (see Detail West website as linked above) Β Hope this helps Β Dan
Adrian Wintle
Other photos at http://www.railpictures.net/ Β There might be back issues of Diesel Era that would have detail photos and drawings. Β Also, I Withers did a book on the Dash 8 C series at one point, although it doesn't seem to be current. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/95-1100 Β Adrian

Adrian Wintle
Thanks guy for all the info but i forgot to say...I model in N gauge Β Try looking at BLMA for details like sunshades and cut levers.. http://www.blmamodels.com/cgi-bin/webstore/shop.cgi?c=start.htm&t=main.index.htm&storeid=1 I've just been using some of their EMD fans on my NS (ex N&W) SD40 project. Β Miniatures by Eric also has some bits and pieces, but nothing really applicable to a Dash 8. http://www.miniaturesbyeric.com/ Β Detail Associates also have a fair number of N scale bits. Β I hope you have one of the later releases of the Dash 8 (shell-mounted couplers)Β as they aren't bad - I have an LMS one that I patched to NSΒ (obtained becauseΒ the price was right), but I would normally go for an Atlas. alastairb
I've found the best source of detail parts is Highball Graphics in New Hampshire. Very good service, excellent range and reasonable shipping costs. His website is at http://www.mgdecals.com/ Β Hope this helps
Adrian Wintle
If you can get one, go for a Detail Associates aircon unitΒ (plastic) rather than a BLMA (etched brass) one. Similar level of detail and a lot less fiddly. Β BLMA have wind deflectors, MU hoses, RC antenna stands, antenna stands, lift rings, and windshield wipers. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted July 6, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 6, 2014 I'd recommend having a look on E-Bay or railway s/h book shops for the following- Β GE's Dash 8 C Series - Dieselization Enters the Third Generation Β by Diesel Era, ISBN 1-881411-03-6 Β This is an old book printed in 1994 but my well used copy remains my "bible" when working on Dash 8-C models, it is a soft cover book covering all of the roads that had these machines when published with lots of good photographs of the road specific aspects including both spartan and wide cabs. Not sure if there will be copies floating about or indeed if they released an updated edition to look for but if you're serious about Dash 8's you should make the effort to get a copy.
