Operating with friends is one of the best bits of the hobby, and only requires a modicum of scenery.

I notice that End of Platform fences are in situ ready for planting for ‘extra realism’!

Yes indeed, great to call in and visit Sheffield Exchange yesterday, en route home from Little Bytham. Inasmuch as Sheff. Exch. is en route to/from anywhere.

 

 

Readers of the Hills of the North thread might recognise the loco but it's the first time it's been seen completed and clothed. A long term, scratchbuilt project that would give Clive a run for his money.

 

Thanks to Clive for his hospitality and giving an opportunity for the Fairburn to stretch its legs for the first time.

 

I thought Graham was photographing the locos standing at the buffers, not the standing old duffer. I would have smiled.

 

As for long term projects, started in 1985,

The excuse for not finishing them, I haven't built a layout where Metro-Vics would be at home. I do understand there is a layout somewhere up in the "Hills of the North" where they might look right on a visit.

Ah, yes ... parked up on Upperby shed with 'Not to be Moved' boards on them. That would be most realistic

I did notice that Clive had them running as a pair.

Because of their unbalanced wheel arrangement I had to buy one loco with a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement (class 21/29) and one with C-C bogies (a Whizzo). One of the pair has a six wheeled power bogie and the other one a 4 wheeled one. The pick-up/trailer bogie being the reverse.

All you need are a few Conflat Ps and it's a great Condor train for  a trip through Carlisle...just saying..

 

And that nice Judith Edge happens to do the correct Conflat P as a kit.. @Michael Edge.

Much like the real thing.  I think NBL Type 2s were often run in multiple for the same reason.

Nice, conventional, traditional DC control, a great set up in the room, easy to walk round and get at - and an impressive box mountain packed away under the baseboards.

Great also to see and inspect Clive's cut n shut ingenuity up close!

The B set coaches yield bits to make a Non Gangway Composite, which I will number as a LMS diagram D2189.

I've been toying with a K40 in 7mm using the Lionheart/Dapol B set. I have two advantages though - firstly the sides come off so can be modified separately leaving the chassis intact. Secondly they make a brake third as well as the usual brake composite and the compartment spacing is exactly the same as the all 3rd (c64?) in the same family. So I have an easy* use for the discarded passenger bits.

 

*I say this confidently having never got round to trying it!

In full on Clive mode tonight. 

I wanted a bit of variety on my ER Excursion/ holiday train set. I had two of the old Baccy Thompsons in the donor spare stash so a Diagram 330 Open Third is taking shape.

Second job is because I'm not happy with the Hornby Mag Stove R. It's about 15" too plump across the duckets. When running with proper width stock it's more like clinically obese then a bit heavy. I had a spare Mainline 50' body, the underframe is the basis for a Palethorpes bogie van to be done soon. 

 

Looking at the centre section it's the same as the Stove R, so a 9'6" reducton eithrr side of the guard's area is underway. This is the first cut so I still need to lose about 4mm from the joins.

Wonderful, nice to see some modelling.

 

I am back on some LNER stuff, more later when the bits start to go together. While everyone is waiting Mollie and Orláith  have a new video,
