RMweb Premium Nile Posted September 11, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2019 (edited) For various reasons progress have been somewhat glacial, but I have at last finished the Cambrian brake van. The front panel of the verandah has a hollow panel as a result of the way the etches fold up and go together. I made a filler for this space from some planked plastikard, here it is before fitting. Some photos of the finished model after weathering with various powders. Edited November 13, 2022 by Nile 13

AlfaZagato
Good spot on that gap. A lesser modeler would have overlooked it. As would most exposition attendees, I think.

Allegedly the Mid-Wales Railway, although it's in BCWW livery there on the Elan Valley reservoir railway.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Nile Posted October 8, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 8, 2019 Prickley Pear Products SER 1864 coal wagon. I bought a new kit at Scaleforum, the first one I think. The whitemetal sides were glued together around the plastic floor, trimmed to fit. Fitting the buffers wasn't quite so simple. At first they seemed far too long. The instructions state the rear of the buffer body should be level with the rear of the headstock. Rather than drill a 3.3mm hole all the way through, potentially making a mess of things, I only drilled a small way in and shortened the buffer body to suit. The chassis was made up on a piece of 1mm plastic card as this set the wagon to the correct ride height. Its design is described as 'semi-sprung'. This was dropped into the underside for a test fitting, it won't be glued in until later. The brake ratchet was folded up from the etched part. Rather than just glue it to the solebar I drilled a hole in it and soldered in some 0.4mm brass rod. This went through a hole drilled in the solebar, bent over and glued. Full test assembly. As suggested in the instructions I added a loop to end of the brake handle. 18 5
AlfaZagato
Looks a neat, straightforward kit. Do you know how long such a wagon would have been in service?
RMweb Premium Nile Posted October 8, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 8, 2019 From the notes in the kit- most had gone by 1930, the last hung on until march 1935. About 50 at grouping. 1

RMweb Premium Nile Posted October 9, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 9, 2019 This was very much an impulse purchase. It was only because he was next to RT models that I spotted it, while talking to and buying bits from Rob.

Word of mouth, chiefly. I took away his A5 flier for his GNSR 4-wheelers, also mentions his W-irons. This gives an address: Paul Tasker Blackdown Mill House Mill Lane Punnett's Town Heathfield TN21 9HX The Scalefour Society website does give a number, from some years ago: 01732 368911. RMweb Gold Ruston Posted October 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2019 I've built a couple of PP etched coach kits and they are very well designed and these wagons look very interesting to me, so I'll keep an eye on you progress, Nile. I didn't go to Scaleforum, so do you know if PP has got the GNoSR well tank kit available yet?

RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted October 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 21, 2019 Nice build Nile, you have a way of finding interesting stock. And if it's not interesting in itself you change it and make it so On 12/10/2019 at 19:32, Compound2632 said: Bits were on display and I overheard the comment "I ought to do some more on that". RMweb Gold Asterix2012 Posted October 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 26, 2019 Nile I have just read through all 37 pages Very impressive work I do have a question, what would you recommend as the best method to join white metal to white metal and white metal to brass? RMweb Premium Nile Posted October 26, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 26, 2019 Hello Asterix. My main method is to use superglue gel (Loctite Power Flex). With this kit I assembled the sides around the plastic floor, then ran thin superglue into the joints. 1
