Good evening, David. That’s an excellent selection of photo’s of The Severn Valley Railway, at Eardington , on the 6th April, 1974. Thank you for posting them in place of what was a duplicate post. GWR Pannier 5764, on a Bridgnorth to Hampton Loade service, makes a lovely sight in C1559.

The photo’s with three from Cumbria and three from Northumberland are a fantastic set. The first photo’ at the Bowness site of C R Solway viaduct, in August, 1977, is a lovely and well composed shot, and it is nice seeing your Mum in it.

The last photo’ at Cambois, with 37121 running round a brake van, on the 31st December, 1985, is a fantastic composition with the weathered 37, and the snow on the ground having partially thawed.

The ‘now’ and ‘then’ photo’s of the signal box and level crossing at Winning, on the freight only line to Cambois and North Blyth, are excellent and show that much has changed. The signal box, for example, now has different windows from earlier times. s BSC_8952 of Winning, on the 16th August, 2024, is a superb photo’ showing how the crossing and box are in the present day, with the last photo’ of 37201, in April, 1983, depicting how things were in the early 1980’s.

The black and white photo’s from around Nottingham London Road are a most nostalgic set, and full of atmosphere. The last photo’ at Nottingham London Road Junction, with 4F, 44416, on a passenger train in c1953, being a delightful portrait shot of the 4F. It has clearly had some cleaning of its’s smokebox door.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a lovely set of photo’s of Didcot, in May, 1979. I particularly like C4535, of 7808, Cookham Manor. An excellent photograph.

The photo’s of Newton Kyme, Normanton Lane LC near Dukeries Junction, ECML, and Norton Bridge Saffordshire, are a delightful selection with C3533, at Normanton Lane LC near Dukeries Junction, ECML, with 25099 and 47520, on a down train, in August, 1977, being a superb shot as the double headed train goes over the crossing.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Norton Bridge Saffordshire Class 86 down May 76 J5232

Zooming in and the flexi-coil springs makes this an 86/1 or 86/2, and the number looks like 86214 or 6, of which 86214 fits, as that one retained a cross arm pantograph until after it was named Novelty for The Rainhill Celebrations...

David, great photos as usual.  Although having passed through many times, I never have alighted at Drongen, the station looks very different since the main line was quadrupled and the station buildings were demolished.

Many thanks for this.

That is a huge change.  I remember I stopped there almost by chance, I was just driving along, saw the station, parked and walked on to the platform.

I think I prefer it as it was then to how it is in the new photo.

Good evening, David. That’s a stunning set of photo’s of Belgium, at Drongen between Ghent and Bruges, on the 14th August, 1990. I particularly like the first photo’ of SNCB Type 63 224 and Type 62 163. An excellent photo’ full of detail for the modeller.

The photo’s of the Midland Railway are a superb selection. The last photo’ of Loughborough Midland, with a Class 45 shunting the goods yard, in May, 1970, being a most nostalgic view.

Very best regards,

Rob.

The southern view at Loughborough looks rather different now.....

I used to go to Loughborough from time to time as I had relatives in the area but haven't been for well over 10 years so that photo came as a surprise.  It is so different.

That Freightliner photo goes back to the days when it wasn’t just boxes but all sorts of shapes!

There’s also a Manchester Liners reefer container (white, rather grubby), less well known than the red ones.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of the ECML at Essendine and Fenham. I particularly like J3693, at Fenham, with Class 45, 98, on an up freightliner, in May, 1974.

The photo’s of York, from 1979, and 1983, are excellent and very nostalgic. In particular I like C6302, of a Class 31 on an up freight train, in October, 1983. It shows how the majestic roof dwarfs the 31 and it’s train.

Very best regards,

Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Switzerland, on the BLS, at Spiez, in August 1991. I particularly like C16290, of BLS Re4/4, 165, on a Basel to Brig service, on the 11th August, 1991. An excellent three quarter shot of the locomotive.

The black and white photo’s of the Great Eastern are a most nostalgic selection.   In particular, JVol1283, at Chatteris Junction, of a WD O7, on an up goods train, in c1948, is a delightful shot of the freight train.

Very best regards,

Rob.

I particularly enjoyed the Spiez photos, David. I had a memorable train spotting session there on my 50th birthday Swiss trip - which felt like it was not long ago, but....15 years!
