Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Connington CCE Tip, along with Newark and Muskham, on the ECML. C4420, of 254011, on an up express passenger service, at Connington CCE Tip, in April, 1979, is a superb photo’ of the iconic HST.

The black and white photo’s the from the late 1940’s at Cambridge, are a superb set. The last photo’ of N7, 69672, on a Cambridge to Stratford service, in c1948, is a fantastic photo’ by your Dad, and the first carriage is an ex-NER clerestory roof design of three compartment BT.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Crich Newcastle Tram 102 21st Aug 76 C3000

David

That is quite a frightening image, please tell you you know those people just exiting the tram with the boy looking up so I know for sure that isn't me and my parents

It probably isn't me, but the three people all have traits of me and my parents but faces are obscured.

Surely you'd remember those flares... I recently saw a photo on Facebook taken at Treherbert with the Western Requiem Relief railtour, with what looked very like me on the platform ramp. It was my clothes that convinced me rather than my face!

Oh I had flairs, my mother head scarves and my dad was becoming rotund.....

C4248 is a Class 25.

It was a typo, many thanks for pointing it out.

Good evening, David. That’s a great selection of photo’s of trams at Crich in 1976 and 1977. C3405, of Manchester 765, in August, 1977, is a splendid portrait shot of the lovely tram.

That’s a fascinating set of photo’s starting with two at Nottingham and three around Plumtree, on the Midland line from Nottingham to Melton Mowbray. The first photo’, at Nottingham, with 45143, on a light engine movement, in July, 1976, is an excellent photo’ and well captures the 45 in the typical Midland setting of the station.  The cab door at the number two end is open.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic set of photo’s of Pilmoor, on the ECML north of York, with one from 1967, and the others in from 1983 and 1987. C5966, of Class 37, 37250, on an up empty coal train, in February, 1983, is a superb photo’, and shows excellent weathering on the 37.

The photo’s of places beginning with an S are a most excellent selection. The first photo’, at Spalding, with 37090, on a SO Manchester Piccadilly to Yarmouth service, on the 13th August, 1977, being a splendid photo’ of the 37.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Was there a bay platform at Starbeck as the signal on left is raised, (off?), but no sign of a train.

I think the signals visible are the junction signals for Starbeck North Junction; the one on the left which is pulled off is for the route towards Harrogate (the line which is still open) and the right hand one would have been for the curve towards Bilton Junction, joining the Harrogate-Ripon-Northallerton ("Leeds Northern') line there.  The Leeds Northern closed to passengers in March 1967 but Starbeck to Ripon and Melmerby remained open freight only until 1969.

As the gates are across the line, quite possibly the box was indeed switched out.  Even if Harrogate-Northallerton was still open to passengers when the photo was taken, I doubt whether the Starbeck-Bilton Jn. curve had any passenger trains by then anyway.

Princes Street Gardens Class 47 1624     Aberdeen to Edinburgh Aug 73 C1297

I think this one came up before - if it was Aberdeen-Edinburgh it would be a 1Gxx headcode and more likely be on the 'North' lines (on the right)

1Sxx means it has originated down South somewhere and come to Edinburgh via Carstairs.

think it turned out 1S39 was a Manchester train.

According to the ScR PTM for 1973, 1S39 was the summer only FSO 1120 Manchester - Edinburgh.
